Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate – Mariakamba Hut
Mount Meru - Mt. Meru Park Gate to Mariakamba: 4-5 hours
Travel from Arusha to the Mt. Meru park gate, where a game ranger and porters will greet you. Embark on a hike to Mariakamba Hut, situated at 8,500 ft. In the evening, consider a walk on the slopes to observe wildlife at a watering hole in the crater. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Mariakamba Hut.
Day 2: Mariakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
Mount Meru - The hike spans 4 km, taking around 2-3 hours, with an ascent of 1,050 meters. You’ll reach an altitude of 3,566 meters, offering stunning views and a sense of achievement. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at Saddle Hut, where you can unwind and prepare for the next part of your journey.
Day 3: From Meru Summit to Saddle Hut to Momella Gate and back to Arusha
Mount Meru - Descend from the awe-inspiring Meru Summit on a 14 km hike back to Momella Gate, descending 3,050m to an altitude of 1,516m. The trail winds through beautiful alpine terrain and lush forests teeming with wildlife. Take a break at Saddle Hut before continuing through the tranquil landscapes of Arusha National Park. Upon reaching Momella Gate, celebrate your accomplishment before a 1-hour drive back to Arusha, concluding your remarkable Mount Meru adventure.
