Highlights
  • Materuni Waterfalls - Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming place is just 15km away from Moshi Town and is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park.

You will be picked up in Moshi/Arusha in the morning, by our English-speaking guide, who will drive you to Materuni Village. Upon arrival, you will register at the village office and your trip can begin.

First you will visit the waterfalls, which are around a 40 minute walk away. On the way, your guide will inform you about the culture of the Chagga, village life and explain the surrounding fauna and flora. The views are truly breathtaking, and with some luck you will see the summit of Kilimanjaro. When you reach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall is an inviting place for a refreshing swim so don‘t forget your swim wear!

After having enjoyed the scenery, you slowly return with your guide to Materuni village, where you will experience a traditional Chagga lunch. You also will have the opportunity to taste our local banana beer – definitely not to be missed!

But that’s not all. Next the coffee experience awaits you. Here you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed. You will also be invited to help with the grinding of the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances - a fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture. Before you say goodbye and return in the afternoon to Moshi or Arusha , you can savour the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest. The departure can also take place from another place

A packed day with hiking, views and cultural experiences! - Great guide and day trip (This was part of a larger 10- day package with Travel Africa Safari Tour). Joel, our driver and guide, took us to see the waterfalls, spent time with us while we learned about how to make traditional coffee and then led us to a hidden gem, the natural hotsprings (which are actually not at all hot - more of a natural pool). Highly recommend this trip if you want to get the most out of a day in Arusha/Moshi.

Exciting - A wonderful trip. Our guide Joel is the best, very responsive, attentive and positive guy. The waterfall is beautiful. The walk to it was not very difficult and exciting: breathtaking views, chameleons and gorgeous photos (thanks Joel). the coffee village is very nice, the guys sing beautifully and roast delicious coffee. Lunch is simple, but amazingly delicious, banana dishes surprised. The hot springs are not hot, it is like a lake in forest with beautiful blue water. We definitely recommend visiting!

Best day tour in Arusha with Joel - What a day! Joel was my guide and right from the beginning he was very helpful and understanding. Taught me some Swahili and made sure I did everything to my heart's content. He stopped to show me birds, chameleons and much more. The waterfalls and coffee tour are outstanding but the hot springs are also a great way to relax

Glad I had such a late flight now! - I'd just finished a safari with this same company, but my flight on the departure date was late in the evening. I paid to do this day tour to fill the time, couldn't have been happier. It was so wonderful to see more of the culture, the coffee man and the village. Joel was a fantastic guide, the hike to the waterfall was very difficult for me and my bad knees but he was lovely making sure I was okay and helping on the slippery bits! He was very knowledgeable and comfortable to be around. The waterfall was worth the hike, a beautiful sight and oh the sound! Just to close your eyes and listen, amazing! Definitly worth it if you want to explore more of the traditional tanzania!

Great tour with unforgettable moments and experiences! - Our guide Joel gave us a wonderful and forgettable day! We started in the Materuni Village by making coffee and then enjoying it. Then we went to the Materuni waterfall, which we reached after a short hike (Joel gave us rubber boots because it had rained the day before - great!). The waterfall was totally impressive! After that, an extensive and varied lunch awaited us in the Materuni Village. The residents of the village were all friendly and we felt very comfortable there. After we had refreshed ourselves, Joel showed us an underground gallery in Moshi - super nice! Finally, we went to the hot springs, which rounded off the day perfectly. A huge thank you goes to Joel, who gave us this great day. We can only recommend the tour to everyone and for us it was the perfect end to our Tanzania trip!

Joel is an exceptional guide and really friendly! - This was one of the best experiences I have ever had, Joel was our Guide for the day and was so understanding and knowledgeable. The hike to the water fall was amazing and the views were exceptional. If you get to do this trip with this company and get Joel you'll be the luckiest traveller. He made sure we were well looked after, provided us with drinks and support and even looked after our bags while we got into the hot springs

An awesome day with an amazing guide Joel - We had a great day from start to finish with Joel from Travel Africa Safari Agency! This was a great way to end our safari trip and very relaxing! From collection to bringing us home safely we had the best day! The hike to the waterfall was great ( a little wet) , lunch in the village was amazing and also the coffee tour! Joel had some tricky driving to do but got us to the Hot springs and back to Arusha! Thanks a lot Joel and all the team!

Great experience - The trip is highly recommended. I enjoyed the walk to the waterfall and later in the village the coffee tour. I learned a lot about the coffee process and enjoyed seeing how it was done (in the past). The tour guide Joel is very pleasant! He is very friendly with a lot of patience. Provides useful information and helps with good tips/photos. If it were up to me I would book all trips with our buddy Joel. Tip: It is useful and nice to take cash with you for a little tip or buy things at all the stops :p
