Additional Information

The Lemosho route is considered the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. It is our preferred route due to its ideal balance of low crowds, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. Most of our clients climb Kilimanjaro using this route and they consistently report that they loved it. Thus, Lemosho is highly recommended.
The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the rain forest to Shira Ridge. The Lemosho route crosses the entire Shira Plateau from west to east in a pleasant, relatively flat hike. Crowds are low until the route joins the Machame route near Lava Tower. Then the route traverses underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route.

Excellent Kilimanjaro climb and 4-day safari combo with Burigi Chato Safaris - I really enjoyed my Tanzania trip with Burigi Chato Safaris which included a Kilimanjaro climb via the scenic Lemosho route (6 days) and a 4-day safari to Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater National Parks. The service was great throughout the trip, operator very responsive and flexible and open to customer requests/wishes. Everything worked as planned. The service during the tour was outstanding as well - guide (Gabriel), chef, and porters made the Kilimanjaro climb a wonderful experience and provided thorough advice/support. Our safari guide (Doni) was very experienced and allowed us plenty of time with the animals to take photos and observe. All accommodations were nice and as described. Airport pickup/drop-off on time and stress-free. I would book with Burigi Chato Safaris again and would recommend their tours to my family and friends.

Memory of a lifetime! - We are so glad we booked with Buriji Chato! We had the best crew to take us to Kilimanjaro. They took care of us extremely well and made sure we were safe. We couldn’t have asked for better guides than Amini and Mr Norka. Also Geoffrey was great with communication and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. My wife and I had a tough time parting with our crew. More than the summit itself it was the beautiful journey and the time we spent with our crew that meant the most to us.

A life-changing experience - Climbing Kili was one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences we've ever had. We took the 8-day Lemosho Route in January 2koo019. We chose this route because it offers great sightseeing. Between crossing the Shira Desert, climbing the Barranco Wall, to walking between Dendrosenecio kilimanjari, it certainly did not disappoint! Thi is also a longer route and we wanted extra time because of the altitude. Make sure you bring good raingear- even though we climbed in a dry month, it rained quite a bit. Otherwise, it was an incredible experience - the summit night was tough but seeing the sunrise was so worth the effort! The 8 days on the mountain with our guides, an outstanding cook and our porters, was life changing - I mean it. It was the simplest and happiest 8 days ever and we found a new passion for trekking and climbing.

8 Days on Lemosho - Amazing! - I had read that the Lemosho was one of the most scenic & quietest routes, with one of the highest success rates on the mountain. You start in the forest, then onto the Shira Plateau, Barranco Wall & sometimes it's like you're walking on the moon! It can be tackled in a minimum of 6 days but recommended are the 8 or 9-day options. I took 8 days. It was challenging but with a really varied landscape along the way. Although I had heard horror stories of how hard the Barranco Wall is, this was my favourite part of the whole hike. I found it fun & the view from the top was breathtaking. My advice is to train - legs & mental toughness. I did 1000 steps onto a box with a weight vest among many other things! Take it slowly & the more time you give yourself to complete the climb, the better. Expect to suffer from altitude sickness & be thankful if you don't (less likely if you take your time). Hire equipment when you get to Moshi will help you cut down on the costs & they have everything you will need. Expect the descent to be the worst part - it is long & hard. Savour every moment, especially if you make it to the summit. Watching the sunrise over Africa is an experience I will never forget! Finally, make sure you go with a local company & one who is recommended for treating their porters well. They are the heroes of the mountain. Do not cut costs with this. Take plenty of cash to make sure you can tip well at the end. They have earned every penny!

Experience of a Lifetime - The hike up was stunning, from the rainforest to the summit, everyday gives different views and landscapes to enjoy. The friendships that formed with my fellow travelers, guides and porters turned into family with the first hike up. Everyday we arrived to camp with song and dance. Despite how tired we were, it was all smiles and laughs during the welcome song. Do not underestimate this hike, it's not easy but if you're prepared and take it slow, you can make it.
