The Machame trail with multi-day schedule is highly recommended for this route. On this itinerary, the journey from Barranco to Barafu is split into two days, enabling a short day just before the summit attempt. This is crucial because summit day begins early, typically around midnight, meaning that climbers tackle the most challenging day on the mountain with little rest. A shorter day prior to this provides climbers with a chance to regenerate. The multi-day Machame route is endorsed and utilized by the majority of recognized Kilimanjaro operators.
