Kilimanjaro National Park -

After breakfast and a general briefing for your upcoming tour (including equipment check), the drive first goes to the National Park gate, which takes about an hour. While your guide does the necessary formalities, you can relax and watch the various mountain teams in their preparation. As soon as everything is done, your adventure begins. In a short time, you will be immersed in the magnificent mountain forest with its huge jungle trees, ferns, moss carpets, and lianas. With luck, you will observe the black and white colobus monkeys in the treetops. After about 5 - 6 hours, you will reach the day’s destination - Machame Camp. Additional Information

Often referred to as the ‘Whiskey’ route, the Machame trail is Kilimanjaro’s most frequented path due to its stunning aesthetics. The trail is known for its strong difficulty level as it is quite steep and can be strenuous especially since it doesn’t allow a lot of time for acclimatization. Hence, it is usually recommended for thrill-seekers or those with experience in high altitude hiking or backpacking. The trail commences from the south side of Mount Kilimanjaro, with a brief drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. It then leads adventurers through the rainforest up to the Shira Plateau, which is a convergence point for many of Kilimanjaro’s routes. The trail goes eastward, passing beneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field along a path known as the Southern Circuit, before reaching the summit from Barafu. Descent is through the route called Mweka. The Machame route is offered as a seven-day group journey or a six-day private hike by Kilimanjaro Operators. The six-day variant merges days four and five, moving from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp without a stopover at Karanga.

Amazing experience - We did the Machame Route in 6 days. I felt very well but my husband had Altitude sickness so I would recommend at least 7 days for a better acclimatation. The road was beautiful and very diversified every day. The submit day was breathtaking. We should have taken energy drinks and bar as the days are long. We were not cold but we had good equipments, especially for reaching the top (ski gloves, pants and jackets). The team was very friendly and food very good. Our camelback was great because it helps you to drink much more often than with a bottle. And you need to drink a lot to avoid Altitude sickness. We had no shower during our entire route so don't forget your lingettes. The experience was great, we definitely recommend people to climb it, but be prepared and train before, it's a real effort. If you can, do another lower submit before like Mt Meru.

Great experience hiking Kilimanjaro - Getting to know the people (guide and porters) as well as other hikers from around the world who are climbing. The beauty of the mountain and trails are gorgeous. I hiked this during Christmas 2017.

Must do! More than a mountain - The whole experience was great, learned a lot from the guides and porters on history, ways of life, records held, and everyday was a new experience. The first 2 days are easy compared to the remaining days and the guides are great at gauging your pace and working with it, the remaining days are tough, but resiliency and endurance is key to make it. There are so many highlights, but the feeling of being above the clouds, and the experience at the summit is breathtaking

Once in a lifetime experience - If you’re thinking about doing it - do it! This is once in a lifetime experience. The teams are awesome, scenery stunning and the climb life-changing. The 6 day Machame route gave my husband and I time to climatise which was super important given we were in our 40s and not as fit as we would like to be. We were successful in our summit, this would not have been possible without the advice and support of our guides and the team who are experts in the route logistics. Do it!
