Arusha National Park - You’ll be picked up from your Arusha hotel and transferred to the Momella Gate of Arusha National Park, where you’ll go through the necessary pre-climb formalities.
Today’s hiking takes you across the open grasslands of the park in the company of an armed ranger. As you’re inside a national park, you’ll have an excellent chance of spotting game such as elephants, giraffes, buffalo, monkeys, and much more during the day.
In the afternoon, you’ll begin to climb into the rainforest, where you’ll overnight in the Miriakamba huts.

The crest can be reached in 3 to 4 days via the Momela Route, the only accessible trail to the top. The climb does not require any special gear, but readiness for high altitude would be beneficial. The route offers encounters with wildlife, stunning landscapes, and an enchanting sunrise at the peak, with Kilimanjaro in the backdrop. Mt. Meru serves as an excellent preparatory hike before tackling Kilimanjaro or as a splendid trek for those not interested in Kilimanjaro. The ascent ensures not only breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro but also wildlife sightings on the woodland slopes. The peak presents a magnificent vista of mini cones and craters, likely residues of previous volcanic activities.
Although Kilimanjaro is the prominent feature in Tanzania, Mt. Meru certainly deserves recognition. Despite standing almost 4,000 feet less than Kilimanjaro, the standalone Mt. Meru indeed poses a notable sight and presents a demanding preparatory hike or a noteworthy attraction on its own.
