Lake Manyara National Park boasts a rich mosaic of different habitats, including a perennial groundwater forest, woodland areas along the western lakeshore, vast marshlands, open grasslands, and the alkaline lake itself, which serves as a feeding ground for thousands of flamingos. This location is unique in Tanzania for its high avian diversity, with over 500 bird species recorded. The lake supports various fish species, and the park is noted for its 180 species of butterflies. Among the commonly seen wildlife are vast herds of wildebeest, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, zebras, bushbucks, waterbucks, forest elephants, giraffes, baboons, warthogs, hippos, African wild cats, civets, spotted hyenas, honey badgers, black-backed jackals, tree-climbing lions, and leopards.
