Here’s what to expect… - We were picked up from our hotel at 7:30 AM sharp in a comfortable 15-seater van. There were only 6 of us on there, so we thought “great, we’ll get to spread out.” We drove about 5 mins then stopped and were told to get on a larger ~50 passenger bus. When the 6 of us boarded the new bus, it was already full—just enough seats remaining for the 6 of us. So we were pretty packed in there (think can of sardines), and the A/C was very weak. We embarked on our hour+ journey when we soon realized that we were the only 2 native English speakers on the tour (even though the tour description stated English). Our guide warned us that her English was rusty, so essentially all we got during the entire day was a few updates in English so that we weren’t totally lost. After about an hour+ drive we finally arrived to Arraial do Cabo. We had about a 10-min walk from the bus to the pier. Once we arrived to the pier, we had to pay a port tax of R$10pp (cash only). Once we boarded the boat, a 2nd group joined us so there were about 100 of us on the boat (us still being the only 2 native English speakers). The cool thing is that the boat had a bar and grilled snacks. We were able to drink & eat then pay for everything at the end with a credit card. They also offered the option to rent snorkel equipment for R$25 (R$27 w/ credit card). We stopped at 2 beautiful beaches and a 3rd stop near some rocks for snorkeling. The boat tour ended around 1:30 PM (~4 hour duration), then we headed back to the pier to board our crowded/cramped bus to head to Cabo Frío for lunch. It was about a 30 min bus ride to Cabo Frío (note: consider using the bathroom before leaving the boat because there were no stops in between). We arrived to a gas station around 2:30 PM for what I assumed to be a pit stop, but no, it was our lunch stop. We dined at a buffet in a strip mall attached to a gas station. The food wasn’t bad, I just expected a more “traditional” experience. We were given 1-hour for lunch which was more than enough time. Food was included but all drinks (including soft drinks), desserts, and [gas station] sushi were extra. After lunch, we again boarded the cramped, sweaty bus to head back to Buzios. I know this review likely doesn’t sound like it, but we really did have an enjoyable time on the boat/visiting the beaches. If I could change anything, I would suggest a small group tour option, a truly multi-lingual guide, and a better lunch option. Overall we’re content with our decision to go, we just would’ve preferred having a better idea of what to expect beforehand, hence why I wrote this review. Hope this helps!
