Best hiking experience in the Canyon - Chris was, without exception, the best guide we have ever had. He was passionate about the Canyon and extremely knowledgeable about its history, cultures, and organic life. He was patient and respectful of our needs and made sure that the experience was fun for us. Also, he made us a delicious late lunch on the trail. We will certainly seek him out for any future adventures in the area.

Hiking tour with Chris - Doing the hike with Chris as a guide was cool. The wealth of additional information about the area and the people made the hike entertaining. A tour with Chris is highly recommended!

Great Day of Hiking with an Expert Guide!!! - To Fellow Hikers,
Very professional company with a responsive owner. We had a hiccup on our end with our scheduling company and the good folks at The Dessert Hiking Company fixed everything. I knew the hike would be challenging and I had a healthy respect for the canyon before entering, which is why I decided our first hike should be done with a guide. We had a family of 5 including 3 teenagers. Our guide was Chris. He was great at communicating and very experienced at working with hikers of all skill levels. Our hike ended up being a little over 4 miles to Cedar Ridge and back. Chris provided plenty of education and entertainment throughout the hike. We made it down to Cedar Ridge not before stopping at Ooh Ah point for a picture. At Cedar Ridge, Chris made us a great lunch of wraps that he had previously discussed with us before the hike to make sure there were no issues. Then, after some fun with wild life(squirrels and a couple of Ravens), we started the ascent. This is where Chris earned our greatest respect because he was very patient and stopped many times for us so we could enjoy the hike back to the top. He shared some pro-tip hiking techniques and some personal stories that helped us get through the most challenging sections of the climb. We highly recommend Chris and The Dessert Hiking Company.

Chris, the greatest guide - Chris was a fantastic Grand Canyon tour guide. He was punctual and had everything ready to go right on time. Throughout the tour, he shared fascinating insights into the canyon’s geology, botany, and history, showing a deep knowledge and love for the area. His down-to-earth personality made the experience feel relaxed and engaging, and he kept the group moving at a perfect pace—not too fast, not too slow. Chris was also incredibly hospitable, making everyone feel welcome and cared for. Most of all, he was just genuinely nice—kind, approachable, and clearly passionate about what he does. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide.

Fantastic, worth every penny. - This was an incredible experience for my husband and I. Chris was our guide and he tailored the hike, food, and pace to us specifically. He was so knowledgeable, we truly learned so much from him on this trip. I cannot say enough how worth while it was to have a guide for our first Grand Canyon hike. We will definitely be back! Incredible Sunset Hike; Book It! - This year’s family vacation took us to the Grand Canyon, and we knew we wanted to do more than just snap a quick photo. A hike was at the top of our list, but we weren’t about to go in unprepared. That’s where The Desert Hiking Company and our guide, Chase, came in! We booked the South Kaibab Sunset Hike, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience; challenging yet incredibly rewarding. Chase made sure we were well-prepared, from safety tips to ensuring we had the right gear and plenty of snacks, water, and a full dinner. As we made our way down, he shared fascinating facts about the canyon’s wildlife, fossils, and rock formations. It wasn’t an easy hike, but with Chase’s encouragement, amazing personality, and thorough preparation, we powered through. This hike was easily the highlight of our trip, and it’s something we’ll never forget. If you’re on the fence, consider this your sign to book it! Thank you, Chase!

Chase, the King of Grand Canyon hikes! - The views on this 3 mile hike are breathtaking. Chase was so knowledgeable and was prepared for anything and everything that could happen. We could not have had a better guide!

Amazing hiking tour!!! - Our Southwest National Park trip ended with an amazing guided hike with Chase from Desert Hiking. We met up at 6am and headed to the South Kaibab Trail. Chase kept us moving at a pace that was appropriate for the family, including one member who is scared of heights. We got lots of amazing photos and panoramic views of the canyon. Chase was extremely knowledgeable about geology, the canyon, hiking and the Southwest. At the 1.5 mile point (Canyon Ridge), Chase laid out an amazing brunch spread which we enjoyed before heading back up the trail. On the way back, we stopped and rested as needed but got back up at a great pace. The whole family agreed that this was the highlight of our trip! Thanks for the memories!

Perfect hike and amazing guide! - My family of four (two fit adults, kids ages 13 and 9) booked a hike with The Desert Hiking Co at the Grand Canyon. We are good walkers and hikers on our own but when in a new place we love going with a guide who can share more of the local history with us and help us see what is not necessarily available to the first-time visitor. Louis was our guide and did not disappoint! He is a deep well of knowledge about all things Grand Canyon including the history and geology of it, as well as the local flora and fauna. He set a perfect pace for our family's needs and... carried a great picnic! We are vegan and he packed really delicious soup and lots of snacks. That picnic was one of my son's highlights of the trip! Thanks so much for a great sunset hike and we look forward to doing it again with you next time we come to the Southwest!

South Kaibab and Hermit Trail hiking with Josh - We had an incredible experience hiking with our guide, Josh! We explored the South Kaibab and Hermit Trail and couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Josh’s deep knowledge and passion for the Grand Canyon—its geology, plants, and wildlife—truly enriched our trip. He set clear expectations, offered great recommendations, and maintained a positive, enthusiastic attitude throughout. He’s an experienced guide who genuinely cares about making the experience memorable and sharing the interesting history of GC with visitors. Prior to the trip, we were communicating with Louis and he was excellent and responsive too!
