As you journey northward, you will come across the renowned town of Sami, brought to fame by the well-known film “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”. Your travels will then lead you to the underground Lake of Melissani. Here, you can experience a magical boat ride across the subterranean lake, where the sunlight illuminates the caves’ water with a vibrant blue and disperses beams of light throughout the entire cave. The lake’s source is located in Argostoli—it reaches the cave by flowing beneath the island and through openings along the western coast. Departing from Melissani and adventuring through the charming harbour of Ag. Efimia, you will next find yourself at the spectacular Myrtos Beach where you can relax and swim for around 2 hours. Often recognized as one of Greece’s most remarkable beaches, Myrtos boasts a fantastic mile-and-a-half stretch of brilliant white pebbles, that sharply contrasts with a steep cliff on the island’s northwest shore. The verdant surroundings, the abrupt landscapes, the pristine pebbles and the clear waters all combine to create an awe-inspiring vista.
