Additional Information

As we traverse Mount Aenos, our journey leads us to Omala Valley, where stands Kefalonia’s largest religious edifice established by St. Gerasimos, the island’s patron saint, back in 1560. It’s almost a ritual to sample Kefalonia’s renowned local wine along with other traditional products, an experience made possible by a cellar and exhibition showcasing wines, spirits and local specialities of Kefalonia and the other Ionian Islands, situated in the vicinity. The journey continues onto Melissani, an underground lake, where visitors are ferried in tiny boats to marvel at the stunning stalactites and the mesmerising play of light, altering the water’s colour. A visit to Drogarati Cave, revealed to the world 300 years ago by an earthquake, is next on the agenda. From there, we proceed to Agia Efimia, a picturesque location nestled between the sea and the fir-lined mountains. Concluding the tour, capture the breath-taking views from Myrtos Bay’s hilltop on your camera.

Beautiful photos from stunning locations - Kathryn was a perfect tour guide. She is British but has been living here for many years. She knows her ancient and local history well. She shares many interesting stories along the way. As it turned out, our tour was on Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday morning, so she re-routed our tour to have the least impact on the sights and experiences, before everything would be shut down for spit-roasted lamb family celebration dinners. We felt honored to be accommodated. The stopping points were excellent choices-beautiful photos from stunning locations and memorable experiences. A must do excursion!

Seamless Splendor: Unforgettable Kefalonia Highlights with Avalon Travel - Our experience with Avalon Travel on the "Highlights of Kefalonia" tour was exceptional. Despite the busy crowd at Melissani Cave, the day was impeccably organized, allowing our group of 6 adults and 2 infants to enjoy every moment. The knowledgeable guide, Maria, and seamless planning made the trip unforgettable. Highly recommended for a well-managed and enriching travel experience.

Island tour - It was nice, the guide (was it Catherine?) Was very nice and knowledgable. My favorite was the lake, amazing! I asked to ve dropped off by the look out on top of myrtos and had a taxi pick me up to go down to myrtos beach, which was amazing!

Nice way to see the island - The excursions went very smoothly. The guide kept us well informed at all times and was very well spoken. Kefalonia is beautiful, but there really isn’t much to see. We were lucky to be there at the end of the season, the lines weren’t crazy.

Kefalonia tour with the cruise ship groups - The cave and underground lake were the best part of the tour. But everything took much longer to do than it should have because there was a bunch of groups from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in port. We waited in line for one hour to see the underground lake. Crazy. So try to do the tour when a cruise ship is not in town.

A long bus ride, but worth it - Our guide Patricia was excellent. She made adjustments to some of our stops along the way due to a very long wait to get on the boat ride. The boat ride was worth the price all by itself even though it lasted 10 minutes.

Nice Tour to see Kefalonia - What a nice way to see the island at the start of your holiday! We had Patricia as a supervisor and she did her best. Along the way she told us a lot about the area and at the Melissani Cave she stood in line for us so that we could just sit somewhere and get food. On the way back she wanted to stop somewhere earlier so that we were closer to our apartment, very sweet and well thought out. All in all a very nice day! She also said: Im happy, if your happy! She also did her best for this.

Good In the Off Season - The ride along the mountains was beautiful. The ocean water was a gorgeous blue. However, we had a 2 hour wait in the hot sun to get in to see Melissani Lake. The lake water was beautiful, but not worth a 2 hour wait in the sun. They did have a store you could go into and shop while you waited. It had refreshments as well so that was nice. If the wait was maybe 30 min, I would definitely recommend it. This was in the summer, peak tourist season, too. Drogarati Cave was nice and no wait!
