Amazing and tasty experience in Arequipa - Amazing experience learning all about the origins of chocolate, roasting the beans, tasting different drinks and then making our own chocolates! It was absolutely delicious - we then tasted some real vs fake chocolates with all the tips we had learned! We had a great afternoon with Andres and would recommend to anyone who likes chocolate in Arequipa!

An amazing, immersive experience! Affordable and learned a lot about chocolate. - An amazing, immersive experience! Workshop is advertised as 2.5 hours, but you should plan for 3 hours. Cost is 80 solas (about $25). We started by touching and smelling dried cacao beans. Next, we chose some to roast in the oven for about 30 minutes. During the cooking, we were told about the history of chocolate. We used the shells of the cacao bean to make cacao tea, which was delicious! (Like tea, but smells and tastes like hot chocolate.) After de-shelling the roasted beans, we ground the beans using pestle & mortar to make our own cacao paste. The instructor then combined the cacao paste, chili powder, sugar, and water to make a hot chocolate drink, which was also delicious! Next, we went to the kitchen to learn about tempering chocolate and to make our own set of 12 chocolates. Finally, we tasted five chocolates and evaluated them based on cacao butter content, darkness, and whether they were real or fake chocolate. We did pretty well, which shows we learned a lot from the class!

It was amazing, fun and informative at the same time. - If we could we would give Andrés and the chaqchao chocolate factory a 20/10 rating. It was so fun and joyful, we learned so much about the cacao plant and chocolate - from its history to how it’s nowadays made. We also went to the chaqchao chocholate factory and we felt like in the movie Charlie and the chocolate factory. Andrés was very patient and showed us how to make our own pralines with several ingredients. We spend the whole afternoon there and it was worth every penny. Thank you Andrés!

Great activity in Arequipa. Chocolate making and tasting. Great fun - Fantastic chocolate making and tasting. Andres was really knowledgeable and interesting. ( he loves chocolate, wine and craft beers and is also an architect)I learnt everything about chocolate making and then made my own. We had chocolate tasting so I can now differentiate between high cocoa percentage chocolate and low. We tasted chocolate drinks. It really was such a great afternoon.I would recommend that you walk into the shop which is just behind Arequipa cathedral as it’s better to book in person as it’s a cheaper way of doing it. You enter it via Gringas restaurant. Such a fun few hours
