• Dagoba of Thuparama - Thuparamaya is recognized as the first stupa constructed in Anuradhapura following the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. It is one of the “Atamasthana” (eight most sacred sites for Buddhists in Sri Lanka). The stupa was erected during the reign of King Devanampiyathissa (307 BC to 267 BC) and is believed to enshrine the right collarbone relic of Lord Buddha.

• Jethawanaramaya Stupa - The Jetavanarama Stupa was built by King Mahasen (276-303). During his reign, it became a center for the Sagalika sect (it is also said that the Sagalika sect originated in Jetavanaramaya). The stupa was last restored by King Parakramabahu in the 12th century.
• Lankarama Sthupa - This stupa was constructed in the 1st century B.C. by King Walagamba (89 B.C. – 77 B.C.). Chronicles mention it was also known as Silasobbakandaka and Galhebakada. Initially, it was called Somarama Stupa in honor of Queen Soma, who saved the king’s life.
• Mirisaveti Stupa - The Mirisawetiya stupa was built by King Dutugemunu (161BC – 137BC) after defeating the South Indian invader King Elara. According to legend, King Dutugemunu once went to Tissa Wewa for a bath, leaving his scepter behind. Upon returning, the scepter could not be moved, prompting the king to construct the stupa at the site where the scepter remained.
