If you love adventure, this is a MUST! My highlight of Guate - This was the highlight of my trip, and that says a lot bc being in Antigua for Semana Santa was already incredible. Don’t get me wrong, this was extremely challenging, especially the hike to Fuego. But it was all worth it because how often does one get to hike an active volcano. I read reviews so I knew what to expect. I made sure I took the right gear and started doing practiced hikes before I went. If the strenuous hike doesn’t get you, the elevation might so be prepared. OX Expeditions was an incredible company to do this with. They had friendly staff. The meeting before the hike really helped to prepare us and we even got to borrow supplies for the hike like backpacks, sleeping bag liners and such. Chino was our head guide and I thought he was fantastic. He is very observant and adjusts accordingly. He was very patient with me during the hike down Fuego at night. He stayed back with me the whole time and it was what I needed. He paced us and we had a break after every 30 minutes on the way up. This really made the spike in elevation easier to adjust. This was a 10/10. A must!!

Book with OX for your bucketlist Acetenango experience! - We had an amazing experience with OX expeditions, our guides Sergio & Chino took excellent care of us, we felt safe and they kept our spirits high and encouraged us even at times when the hike felt difficult. The pre-hike meeting the day before was very helpful to get an idea of what the hike would be like. The food was nice, especially traditional breakfast on the first day. From our cabins we could watch Fuego erupt all night, most other companies did not have this from what I heard (i.e stayed in tents inside a shed etc. so only get the view from outside). If you have not booked to do Fuego you can decide on the day if you have enough energy and pay when you return to Angtigua, you should do it if you can!! I would definitely recommend OX for a trip to Acetenango, they have the best rep for a reason!

The best plan in Antigua - The climb is quite tough but all members of our group made it thanks to the incredible guides. We were lucky to have clear weather being able to see the sunset from Fuego, the volcanic activity at night and the sunrise from the top of Acatenango, try to go as much as possible on the driest days, another group that climbed a couple of days before He couldn't see anything because of the fog. (they charge 40 dollars extra for the fire rise)

A must! - Could not recommend this tour any more, everything was amazing. Definitely would go with Ox expeditions again, company were great from start to finish. Saw some other companies that were not as good, losing some of their group, people not with the correct gear. With Ox they make sure you have everything. Don’t go with anyone else

Definitely a must!! - I loved this trip! It was an experience for life! Ali, our guide was so good and helpful! Had a great time and good conversations with him:) Would definitely recommend!

Extremely hard hike but Ox tours made it a little easier - Our guides were Philip and Sergio. They both made sure everyone was prepared and safe. You can rent gear from Ox like backpacks, gloves, hats etc. You can also rent hiking sticks once you get to the base of the mountain which i would 100% recommend getting the better metal ones, not the regular sticks as the terrain is rough. We also hired a porter for 200Q. This was an extremely hard hike but we took a good amount of breaks and one long break for lunch then we had dinner at base camp. I did not choose to do Fuego so i cannot review that part of it but you can pay once you’re at base camp and add that hike as well. In the morning (around 4am) you can choose to hike to the summit. I tried but the altitude had other plans for me. Even if you don’t make it to the summit, the views of the volcano from base camp are amazing. My fiancé did make it to the summit which he said had great views. I’ll include his pictures as well. Overall i would definitely go with Ox tours if you plan to do this hike.

Great experience, sickness and all - Amazing views. Unfortunately came down with a GI illness the day of the hike but the OX tour group, specifically Ali and Alonso, worked with me and made I could get up to base camp. Was physically demanding but was able to make it at a slow pace. Would highly recommend to others looking for a great experience! Will be back one day to try again.

An amazing experience! - Such an incredible experience - this was definitely the highlight of my trip so far! Ali was a wonderful guide; he was knowledgable, supportive and fun. Our group only had positive things to say afterwards and Ali definitely made all the difference :)

Best Day Ever - BEST DAY EVER!!!! We had the great fortune of having Ali as our tour guide and not only was he informative he was so much fun. He made everything exciting even when the weather took a turn for the worst. The views and the atmosphere were out of this world and I wouldn’t trade the experience I had for anything.
