Embark on a circular hike in the heart of the Lefka Ori mountains, exploring the extraordinary, lunar-like landscape of Crete’s largest mountain range.
The adventure begins with a short road trip from the traditional and historic village of Anopoli, venturing into the mountain’s interior in an off-road vehicle (transfer included in the price). After an hour of thrilling driving along a rugged dirt road (22km, 1 hour drive), the journey reaches the hike’s starting point, nestled in the heart of the Lefka Ori mountains.
From this point, the well-marked trail leads to the highest peak of the range, Pachnes (2,453m). A brief pause allows for the appreciation of the majestic Cretan mountain landscape before setting off for the Katsiveli refuge, a small plateau centrally located in Crete’s largest mountain range.
Finally, surrounded by impressive high peaks, the route circles back to the starting point, concluding with a return to Anopoli village via the same path.
