Highlights
  • Chugach State Park - We will visit either Rendezvous Mile High Ridgeline, two of the best ridgelines in the entire Chugach State Park. They feature both alpine scenes and 360 views of the Anchorage Bowl. We’ll determine which location we visit based on weather and group ability the day of the hike.

Ridgeline trekking is an incredibly unique way to see the landscape. While the ascent can be tough, once you arrive at the top, it is truly remarkable. You can see forever! On a clear day, we can even see Mt. Denali hundreds of miles away! Plus, the terrain can be fairly flat, making the trekking a truly enjoyable experience. During the tour, we may see moose, bear, Dall sheep, mountain goats, and a variety of small mammals like arctic squirrels and marmots. There are also plenty of birds to gaze at like bald eagles, thrushes, chickadees, and jays. This is one of our favorite ways to hike Alaska and the Chugach State Park.

Great hike! Would definitely recommend! - My husband and I hiked the Alpine Classic Trek in September. Greg, our guide, was awesome. Lots of interesting conversation between us and you could tell he was extremely knowledgeable about Alaska. His love for the outdoors was evident, and he made us excited to experience each step up the mountain, even though we knew he's done this same hike too many times to count. When we first arrived in Anchorage, we were a bit underwhelmed - especially having traveled from Denali. However, this hike totally redeemed the stop in Anchorage on our Alaskan vacation. For us, the hike was challenging enough to still be an adventure (we regularly hike sand dunes at home so we felt physically capable for this hike). And the views...omg the views...We luckily had great weather and our pictures from this hike are probably better than the pictures from Denali Park. I would definitely recommend - and if I ever come back to AK I would consider another stop in Anchorage to hike this beautiful area.

Great hike with amazing views of Anchorage and Knik Arm from the top - The hike was amazing, beautiful views at the top and the weather was perfect, the sun even came out when we were at the top of Mt Baldy. Our guide Britt was excellent, she was patient, taught us about the flowers, wildlife, took our photos, and gave us a snack.

Anchorage ridge hike. - Britt was a knowledgeable and a friendly guide. Overcast days limited some of the views but she still made sure we enjoyed ourselves. Finished a bit early so she stopped by a beautiful waterfall on the way back.

Enjoyable hike up the Baldy Trailhead - We booked our tour through Alaska Tour and Travel as part of a package. Go Hike Alaska was promptly emailing us ahead of time for waivers and confirmation of pick up location, etc. The Alpine Classic Trek was our second experience with Go Hike Alaska on this vacation. Our Guide Lea was prompt at the pick up location. We waited 10 minutes while she tried to find the last person booked for the excursion. Once it was confirmed that they would not make it, we were off! Lea is a wonderful guide and we were happy to have her lead us on this second outing. The hike is a steep incline right off. We had gone up Mt Healy in Denali, and it was more of a switchback that went up gradually. The Alpine Hike was straight up with several breaks provided by Lea to catch our breath, or I should say my breath, the rest of my party seemed to have no issues! We were advised to get some pictures in early, since the clouds will be unpredictable on this day when we reach the top. Lea was correct! We got to the top and were surrounded by a cloud. You could not see anything. We stayed at the top for 30 minutes - in that timeframe it did clear up somewhat, and we were able to get some really nice pictures. We were given a choice on paths to return back down to the vehicle. Lea made sure to explain what the differences were. We chose the back side. It was a moose trail, and muddy. We were prepared. It was muddy, but a very different decent! All of my party enjoyed the hike up and back down.
