Highlights
  • Seward Highway - Experience the highlights of the Turnagain Arm! This day tour departs Anchorage for the scenic drive south along the edge of the Turnagain Arm on the Seward Parkway. This road is considered to be America’s most beautiful and scenic road, crossing mountain passes and majestic valleys. Along the way we will try to spot moose, eagles and other wildlife. On our way towards the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, we will make a couple of stops for photo opportunities at Beluga Point and Bird Point.
  • Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center - We will visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The AWCC opened to the public in 1993. It is located on 140 acres at the southern edge of Turnagain Arm and the entrance to Portage Valley. The center’s mission is to provide care and rehabilitation for injured and orphaned wildlife and to provide wildlife education and awareness. Animals that are unable to be released or survive in the wild are given refuge in the center’s spacious habitats. Here people can safely get close, observe and photograph some of Alaska’s largest land animals, including moose, bison, elk, deer, caribou, bears muskox, small mammals and birds of prey. During spring and summer, visitors can often witness the rehabilitation of orphaned baby animals of various species.

Beware of the Mud Flats & Ghost Trees - This was a great tour. It was more than seeing animals. The ride to the Conservation Center along Turnagain Arm was both informative and fun. It was a 70 degree sunny day when we met our van with about 10 other people at the Eden Center which was about 3 blocks from our Hotel Captain Cook. Our guide/driver was terrific and tried to help a group of folks who were very confused about what tour they had booked. We made several stops and our guide told you as much or as little as you asked. When you go on this tour you will understand WHY going out on the mud flats can be fatal, that’s if the ghost trees don’t catch you first!

The trip of a lifetime!! 😍 - Review We had an amazing time on our Planet Earth Adventures tour! We booked the 11-day Alaska Discovery Tour, and it was phenomenal. Albert was our guide during the first half of the trip, and Phil was our guide for the second half. They were both so sweet, exceptionally knowledgeable, and also punctual and very reliable. They made our trip so stress-free, we didn’t have to think about any logistics or worry about how to get around - they took care of everything. That coupled with their expert knowledge of the region, we really feel like we got such an added-value by booking with Planet Earth. It was worth every penny, and we had the trip of a lifetime thanks to Albert and his team!
