Additional Information

Our first destination will be Ananuri, a 16th-17th century fortress and church that once served as the living quarters of the Eristavis (dukes) from Aragvi. The complex includes fortifications, three churches, and various other religious and civil structures. It overlooks the manmade reservoir of Jinvali and serves as a control point for the region. We’ll continue through the Gudauri ski resort, cross the Jvari Pass at 2395 m, and arrive at the town of Stepantsminda, which acts as the administrative hub of Khevi province. After a brief journey off the beaten path, we’ll reach Gergeti Holy Trinity Church, a significant 14th-century sanctuary located on Mount Kazbegi. The architectural details etched into the facade of the church will transport you back into times of olden rituals and faith. Weather permitting, we’ll be able to catch a glimpse of Mount Kazbek, standing at 5033 m, which is the third highest and among the most famous mountain peaks in the Caucasus.
