Highlights
  • Paleisstraat 107 - Embark on the enchanting world of Kintsugi, a Japanese art restoring beauty to imperfections with golden leaf glue.

Originating in the 15th century, Kintsugi revitalizes cracked pottery, turning fractures into intricate golden patterns. Aligned with contemporary design trends, it celebrates imperfection, natural materials, and craftsmanship. Our workshops embody the beauty in imperfections, inspired by Japanese wabi-sabi.

Experience highlights:

  • A serene introduction sets the tone.
  • Break a plate symbolically, signifying a fresh start.
  • Patiently reassemble shards, witnessing their transformation into something uniquely beautiful.

Engage in this hands-on activity to discover deep focus, refine motor skills, and gain insights applicable to daily life. Kintsugi is more than art; it’s a metaphor for letting go, embracing new beginnings, and finding beauty in resilience.

This immersive journey transcends mere repair, delving into healing wounds, uncovering meaning in scars, and celebrating the profound beauty in life’s imperfections. Join us for a creative, mindful exploration of the imperfect

A wonderful creative afternoon in a cool independent art gallery - I surprised my girlfriend with this workshop for her birthday and it was the perfect experience! Annelies gave a lot of guidance throughout and we came away with some really great results too. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique creative activity and with steady hands ;)

She gives you the space to develop your on creativity. You totally explore a creative side of yourself. The kintsugi workshop was a very inspiring workshop. Fantastic experience, great teacher! - Atmosphere was very nice, teacher is very creative and knowledgable. We started off with a very beautiful interlude where she connected this Kintsugi technique with innergrowth, which gave the piece we worked on soul. “The cracks become golden scars” she said, this really touched me as it makes you look different at “scars” ;) thanks for this amazing experience!

Great workshop! - We had high expectations of the workshop but never would have thought it was so much fun. You start with smashing plates, or a vase, or some cup and saucer into pieces which is sensational to do, although a bit scary too. How to put those pieces together again?! But it works. Thanks to Annelies who told us to be patient and careful, but also to not be afraid of the imperfections in life. So, yes, indeed, we had some new valuable insights too! Not only about the art of imperfection, but also, for instance, what scars could mean. It gives you for sure a different look at things around you in daily life. And to have an eye for the beauty in common things.

Great Kintsugi experience with a very nice host - We had this kintsugi workshop in the centro historico of Acqui Terme! A very peaceful ambiance where we could fully concentrate on putting the pieces of ceramic together again. It was fun doing that, piece by piece, but also quite educational. The two hours flew by with a lot of laughter and a lot of inspiration too. Seeing the results of each other was great. After the workshop we had a drink on one of the terraces nearby with most of the other participants joining. So it also appears to be a nice way to meet people with the same interests! Would recommend to everyone!!!

Kintsugi - an art form and restorative experience - I’ve always supported the idea that is better to repair than throw away and combined with my fascination with the Japanese culture, I was happy to have found Annelies and her workshop offering Kintsugi. This is a beautiful art form, going much deeper than just the physical act of repair. That’s thanks to the wonderful spirit of Annelies who will guide you with knowledge, kindness, care and patience - much needed in my case since I overachieved in breaking my bowl into more pieces than anticipated. I guess it’s the greek in me - we are awfully good at smashing plates! 🤭 I highly recommend this workshop for any and of all ages, for friends and family to do together or privately. You will not be disappointed and go home with much more than a new skill, but an appreciation for the art of restoration. 🌸
