  Artists were invited to depict and contemplate rituals significant to Amsterdam’s diverse community. Rituals, as enduring foundations, offer a sense of continuity and connection to our past, present, and future selves. This edition seeks to connect, move, or inspire our audience with light art that embodies various aspects of rituals, such as rhythm, repetition, performativity, symbolism, continuity, and memory.

The fourteenth edition is dedicated to the theme of Legacy. Artists are prompted with the questions: How will we be remembered? Or perhaps more crucially: How do we wish to be remembered? Each generation encounters unique challenges. Some are inherited from our predecessors, while others are of our own making. We receive the world as it is, but our legacy is defined by what we leave behind.

Artists from across the globe are encouraged to use light as a medium to reflect on what we choose to preserve and what we leave behind. Whether through skeletal pavilions, festive light arches, digital projections, or intricate hand-drawn designs, each piece of art is woven with personal narratives that collectively capture the essence of our era.

As you explore the route, you’ll discover that legacy is not always something tangible. The temporary installations may vanish, but they endure as memories. Together, they create a living archive of ideas, emotions, and values.
