- King Abdullah Mosque - King Abdullah I Mosque – Architectural and Spiritual Marvel
The magnificent blue-domed King Abdullah I Mosque, constructed in the 1980s by the late King Hussein in tribute to his grandfather, stands as one of Amman’s most renowned landmarks and is among the few mosques in Jordan accessible to non-Muslim visitors. Its octagonal prayer hall covers 1,615 m² and accommodates up to 3,000 worshippers, all without interior pillars.
The dome, 35 meters in diameter and rising 31 meters high, features a golden star at its center and is surrounded by the Ninety-Nine Most Beautiful Names of Allah. Below it, a stunning chandelier with 168 lanterns, each inscribed with Quranic verses and the name of Allah, is suspended.
Inside, a red decorative carpet represents fertile land and directs worshippers towards the Kiblah. The pulpit, Mihrab, and walls are adorned with intricate marble and wooden paneling, highlighting exquisite Islamic artistry.
