The Moroccan Atlas is essentially a chain of mountains which spans across the northwest of Africa, emanating from Tunisia and subsuming Algeria along a stretch of 2,400 kilometers. The highest peak, Toubkal, measures 4,167 meters and is located in Moroccan territory. The Atlas region is mainly populated by Berbers, both in Morocco and Algeria.
