Hugo is thrilled to share his enthusiasm for the Vinho Verde region, particularly the Terras de Basto, a hidden gem with much to explore. This area has roots dating back to prehistoric times, inhabited by resilient, industrious people with a strong sense of ownership.
It’s the perfect place to delve into the origins of Vinho Verde, which, despite gaining wider recognition in the past 50 years, embodies centuries of local inspiration and expertise.
The Vinho Verde region is well-known to Hugo, who has developed many friendships with local producers over time. He confidently describes this experience as a journey to a memorable day, starting from Porto to the largely unexplored and naturally beautiful Terras de Basto.
Along the way, there will be a coffee break in Amarante, a historical treasure with an authentic atmosphere. The tour includes visits to two family-run estates with cellars, where guests are welcomed like friends. Here, visitors can taste unique grape varieties like Azal or Padeiro, and discover that there are red Vinho Verdes such as Vinhão. Imagine that!
After the initial wine tasting, a delightful lunch will be served in a well-preserved setting, featuring traditional cuisine paired with unfiltered, homemade Vinho Verde – a truly unique experience!
Throughout the visits and tastings, guests are treated to breathtaking views of Monte Farinha or Sra. da Graça. After an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable day, it’s time to leisurely return to Porto.
Among all the experiences Hugo has promoted over the years, this is the one he most enjoys sharing with visitors, as it consistently elicits genuine surprise and satisfaction. Are you ready to discover it?
