- Alotau - East Cape Drive ..(Full day tour )\nEmbark on a journey with us and immerse yourself in the genuine village lifestyle, explore ancient caves, and venture to the furthest point of Papua New Guinea.\nPrepare for an extraordinary day and remember to bring your camera.. The Local Village is a mere 30 minutes away by car from the city center, with the skull cave just an hour’s drive. Revel in the magnificent scenery along the main road, passing by various indigenous villages and savoring the seaside panorama. In the village, you’ll be introduced to various facets of everyday village life, including hands-on activities like foraging, culinary practices, weaving, sanitation, building, climbing, and more.\nYou’ll also discover the history of cannibalism in the region. In bygone times, the communities of Papua New Guinea were separated by formidable mountains, thick forests, and over 600 islands, leading to a multitude of languages. Conflicts and skirmishes were common, and the fallen enemies were often eaten. Witness the stone circle where village elders once convened to decide the distribution of human remains. Before departing, you’ll savor a traditional meal consisting of taro, yam, banana, and other fruits, complemented by fresh young coconut juice.\nThen, continue on a one-hour drive to the easternmost point of mainland PNG to explore the Skull Caves, sites of numerous violent acts. Observe the stone slab that was used for dismemberment. The cave floor is strewn with skulls, presenting a poignant yet fascinating tableau. This tour promises to be an unforgettable experience, including a visit to the easternmost tip of the country. On the return trip to Alotau, we’ll make stops at the Milne Bay war Memorial, the local vegetable and craft markets where you can purchase an authentic craft or souvenir, and finally, the town lookout for a breathtaking panoramic view of the bay.

Get away from the boat and port and experience the warmth of Alotau - Our hosts were easy to find with their banners and had shade and water for us. We had a full day visiting our hosts home village and the incredible skull cave. Very informative and dispels some of the myths surrounding PNG culture.
I cannot speak highly enough of warm welcome and interest from the locals.
Take the time to invest in the local people and culture. You will not be disappointed

Incredible experience I'll never forget - Wow! What a tour. We met Shane by chance off our cruise ship looking for a tour. My wife and I both got a good vibe from him and his drivers and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. The village we went in to was incredibly welcoming, and the Skull caves were must see.
Shane's knowledge and communication was top notch. This was the highlight of our whole trip. Highly recommended! Thank you!

Must do! - Really interesting day! A great way to experience Alotau and its surroundings safely with a local English speaking guide who is well informed and from a local company! Don’t forget your bathers if you would like to enjoy a swim.

Fantastic day of discovery. - We had a truly memorable day with Shane and crew. Very caring team.
Visited a cultural village where we were treated to a delicious lunch made for us in traditional style. Best veggies ever. Learned so much about the culture of PNG and saw many beautiful places, vistas, caves and a market. Wonderful day. It was a great day of discovery. Not to be missed.

The road to East Cape has... - The road to East Cape has lots of construction and travels through a lot of small villages. English is the common language, so speaking to many locals is easier.

I felt that the tour was... - I felt that the tour was overpriced and we seemed to have paid more than other passengers. The vehicle was small and dirty and not comfortable.

Disappointing and very disappointing! - We had very bad experience. It was not private tour. They even didn’t have the private cars waiting for you on the shore next to the ship it was only old old buses which fit 10 people, and I was in one of those.! it’s not much to see on the island even woman who was our guide was very nice, she tried very hard to make our trip pleasant. But I am planning to call Viator and talk about that tour.

Very disappointing tour! Do not book! - Very disappointing tour for the price of it. 5 hours sitting in the back of a truck, no food provided, no waterfalls, no canoeing or snorkeling, saw a skull cave but had to pay $5 to take a photo, no Birdlife or trekking, did go to a local village to see local medicine. At this stage we were all hungry but local guide didn't seem to know about lunch or the other parts of the tour. Very disappointed! A total waste of money. Would not recommend.
