The Almería Civil War shelters are an subterranean architectural marvel designed to safeguard the city’s residents from the era’s bombings.
From 1937 to 1939, these shelters provided refuge to 40,000 individuals, making them the most well-preserved shelters in Europe. These historical marvels celebrated their 85th anniversary in 2022, marking the year their construction began in 1937.
Our tour will begin with a 13-minute video presentation. Following the sound of sirens, we will then descend either via staircase or elevator.
Next, we’ll take a 1-kilometer walk 9 meters below the surface, experiencing first-hand the atmosphere from 85 years ago. Our exploration will take us through the storage area and the underground hospital, offering insights into the usage of each space.
We’ll conclude our tour just outside the School of Art, following a journey down an intriguing corridor.
