Additional Information

The historical roots of Alexandria are deeply intertwined with the creation of the United States. George Washington, a native of Virginia, was born in Pope Creek Plantation in Westmoreland County, just a mile away from the Potomac River. His family moved often, alternating between Ferry Farms near Fredericksburg and Little Hunting Creek Plantation, also known as Mount Vernon. Washington started his professional journey as a surveyor, with Alexandria being among the first communities he evaluated and designed. This Alexandria walking tour allows you to tread the same paths as George Washington.
