Additional Information

Embark on a captivating
journey with a NASCO Tours representative from Alexandria as we delve into a
poignant chapter of World War II history at El Alamein. This hallowed ground
witnessed the costly clash between British forces and General Erwin Rommel’s
Afrika Korps in 1942, claiming 80,000 lives. Our first destination is the
Military Museum, housing four halls representing participating nations and a
shared exhibit of weaponry and tanks. Here, evocative paintings recount the
battle’s narrative, shedding light on Egypt’s wartime role. Our pilgrimage
continues to the Commonwealth cemeteries, where fallen soldiers from various
nations who fought alongside the British rest eternally. We’ll also pay
respects at the Italian and German cemeteries before returning. Your adventure
concludes with a return to your hotel, leaving you with memories of Egypt’s
wonders.

We had a lovely time with our guide... -
We had a lovely time with our guide Shereen and driver Simon! They took us through all the sites we were interested in, Shereen giving interesting and thoughtful comments the whole way! They also helped us make lunch arrangements and offered to wait to shepherd us back to our hotel afterward, going above and beyond. They were so great, we requested them a second time for a tour of Alexandria, and again had a wonderful experience. We cannot recommend them enough!

WWII battle site was worth it. - While this site was not the reason for visiting Alexandria, I decided to take a taxi to this place as an interesting WWII battle site. I was not disappoined by either the museum or the British cemetery there. I had been to many WWII sites in Europe (my father was wounded twice, from Omaha Beach to Bastogne) and the trip along the coast heading West was also quite nice. I worked out a deal with a cab driver to get me there. If you go, be sure and do the same -- be clear on price before getting into the taxi. The battle turned the tide in the battle for North Africa during the war. While staying in Alexandria (at the Hotel Triumph), I couldn't help but think that some of the British soldiers may have stayed in that same hotel before the battle. If you have an interest in history, this trip is well worth your time. (Also, I was there in Nov. 2018 but the time line below did not include it).

Terrific guide, an Alexandria local... -
Terrific guide, an Alexandria local, who was obviously extremely proud of the region.
Only disappointment being the Museum was closed on this particular occasion due to a State visit. However our guide was more than willing to incorporate other sites of interest to make amends.
