Acatenango stands as the region’s third tallest peak and will serve as your overnight destination, offering an ideal spot to experience life in its most vibrant form. Situated beside the Fire Volcano (Volcán de Fuego), one of Guatemala’s three active volcanoes, it is renowned for its visible lava eruptions from the basecamp. Andrea Cardona, along with many seasoned hikers, agrees that witnessing the sunrise from Acatenango’s summit is extraordinary, providing a heavenly feeling of being above the clouds.
Volcán de Fuego is recognized as the world’s most consistently erupting volcano. Its eruptions are visible from afar when traveling to the starting point from Antigua, with smoke predictably billowing from the summit every 15 minutes.
As you climb, you’ll encounter microclimate changes and traverse a diverse ecosystem. Ensure that your inner voice remains encouraging during the physical challenge, as the entire team will support you throughout the journey.
