Additional Information

In 1914, more than 41,000 soldiers departed from Albany to fight in World War I. For many of them, it was their last glimpse of their homeland. Now, at this exact location, you can find the high-tech, award-winning National Anzac Centre. This modern museum leverages multimedia, engrossing technology, and authentic exhibits to forge a deeply personal link with history and honour those who fought.

The museum combines classic exhibit displays and engaging multimedia content to guide the visitors on a journey. Visitors adopt the persona of one of 32 real soldiers and trace their voyage through the Great War—starting with recruitment, transitioning into training and embarking, leading into life aboard the convoy ships, and onward into the battles at Gallipoli, the Middle East, and the Western Front. For the fortunate ones who made it back, visitors will see firsthand their struggles when reintegrating back into everyday life.

  • All buildings and attractions adjacent to the National Anzac Centre are included as part of the admission price.

Excellent dedication to the ANZACS - We have visited numerous exhibitions such as this including those in France and we found this to be very impressive. The overall design of the building along with its stunning location make it unique. The exhibition is curated in a thoughtful and respectful way and the personalised stories really add to your understanding. We were touched by the movie “Bayonets and Butterflies” make sure you catch it. This is a great addition to our national collection.

What An Experience - A thoroughly enjoyable and humbling experience . The history of the old fort through to WW1 , the men (and women) based here and follow one of them through the war by way of interactive storytelling. It’s possible to get a free guided tour of the old fort and military base, we had a superb guide in Rob who made the tour (approximately 1 hour) interesting and fun. You are then free to explore and visit the museum at your leisure. A very good cafe/restaurant on site is a bonus. It’s well worth the trip to Albany if your are in Western Australia

Excellent museum - extremely thought provoking. - Excellent museum - very interactive and laid out brilliantly. We both found it a very moving informative experience. One of the best museums I've ever been too. Very good for children who are able to read but inside not really great for little ones. They would get bored - and also its such a moving experience it needs quiet respect in a way. But outside there are lots of mitary machine and equipment to climb on and bunkers to explore which they would love.
