Alba - Discover the secrets and the traditional techniques in a true hunting of the precious white or black truffle with a professional “Trifolao” and his inseparable dog.
Understand how, where & why truffles grow up in our area, learn the differences between black & white truffle, how dog is trained and enjoy the intense scent. Truffles found during the hunting are not included in the price but you can be purchased from the hunter.
White truffle season: from 21 September to 31 January - black truffle:different types at different times of the year. During the autumn season, warm and comfortable clothing is recommended, rain coats and rubber boots are available. You will meet your guide in Alba (train station or cemetery), then be driven through thesurrounding hills to reach the “Trifolao” in one of its secret spots in the middle of nature.
The transfer is not included, you will need your own car to follow the guide (10/15 minutes driving). Transport by hired car with a driver is provided on request. The tour usually is shared with other guests; traveling alone & reserving for one an extra charge of
70 is required (not in case someone joins that tour).

Hailing from Alba, I am a third-generation truffle hunter. Following the 2nd World War, my grandfather was one of the pioneering truffle hunters and passed on his secrets concerning the valuable ‘ipogean fungus’ to my father who, in turn, educated me. A dog trainer, I currently have three wonderful dogs: Lisa, Palli, & Isi. With a desire to impart ‘some’ of my truffle hunting knowledge to tourists, I offer this tour. Accompanying us will be my partner Margherita, who is a certified tour guide and has a strong passion for truffle and local culture, providing translations during every aspect of the hunt.

THE MEETING POINT CAN BE CHANGE (following the availability of the hunter).
You can follow the guide car with your car.
Car is NECESSARY. If you don't have a car we can provide for your transfer from Alba with an extra charge upon request.

Good experience! - I went to Zermatt for a solo trip. It was lovely. I wish the breakfast had more things and they had better pillows to be honest. But the hotel is good, and the restaurant inside as well. Very polite staff. I recommend.

To do absolutely - We learned lots of interesting things about truffles from the guide who spoke French. In addition, during the visit of approximately 2 hours, while following the master and his dog, the latter found 5 truffles of different varieties and sizes, including the famous white truffle. Possibility of buying truffles at the end of the route. Boots provided for the visit.

We Found Truffles! - We had a fantastic time, hunting truffles in a hazelnut orchard! Margherita is an excellent guide and translator! We learned so much about truffles and were thrilled every time the dog (Flora) started frantically digging! She found both black and white mushrooms, and we purchased a small white one, at the end of the hunt! Boots were provided and the hunt lasted for about 2 hours. I would highly recommend this!

Great experience in Alba - It was truly an interesting experience to see truffle hunting in real time and learn about different types of truffles. Our guide and truffle hunter and his dog were great, we had such a good time. Our guide came to the meeting place (which was at the Alba cemetery parking lot for my group) and we followed the guide's car for about 10 minutes to the truffle hunting hill/area. I would definitely recommend it if you have time for a day trip to Alba. The town is very cute and there is free parking near the train station where you can park so you don't have to enter the ZTL zone.

Great outdoor experience - A great experience with our group, Triffaulo and his dog. We learned a lot about the different truffles and the work of Tiffaulo and his dog. And the team was successful. The dog found several black truffles and even a small white truffle!

Sniffing truffles - Absolutely great, friendly team, professional and uncomplicated. We were very lucky. We found 5 truffles of 3 different types. That's not always the case. That's how you want truffle hunting to be. Thank you Margarita, Ricco and of course the sleuth Lisa

Better than expected! We... - Better than expected! We walked around a bit, found a handful of truffles, and got to see the hunt in action. The hunter, the dog and the guide were all very nice, and I had a lot of fun

A unique and fun experience - This was quite a unique experience, we really enjoyed it. Host Margharita was great as well as our hunter and his faithful partner (dog)- Flora. Definitely need to use bug spray and cover up entirely as it’s deep into forest so countless encounters with hungry mosquitos and no-see-ums
