Highlights
  • Doka Estate Costa Rica Coffee Tour & Plantation - First we will go to Doka Coffee Estate, where we will have a coffee tour in an actual coffee plantation where we will learn the ancient techniques used by the experts to produce some of the best coffee in Costa Rica and around the world.

The careful process involved in the cultivation, harvesting and roasting of the Golden Bean will then be illustrated, very hands-on, and then we will savor the delectable product. After the coffee tour we will enjoy a Costa Rican lunch buffet.

  • Parque Central De Grecia - We will continue to Grecia, a very typical and traditional town, where we will admire the metal church, a building that has a rare architecture, with high ceilings, ornate stained glass windows, and classical lines.
  • Fabrica de Carretas Eloy Alfaro - Next we will visit the town of Sarchi, known as the birthplace of Costa Rica’s Artisans. In Sarchi, you will be able to appreciate many of the art crafts and souvenirs that Costa Rica has to offer, as we visit a factory and souvenir shop managed by the local artists. Also you will see the world’s largest ox cart according to the Guinness Book.

The cart is 2 stories high, nearly 45 feet long (14 meters) and weighs 4400 lbs. (2 tons), and took 70 days to complete. Made out of wood (cedar) and decorated with bright colors, designed based on our typical and traditional oxcarts.

Highly recommend this tour with Arturo! - Arturo was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were the only two for the tour yesterday so we had a VIP tour where he shared a lot of useful information with us. The town tours and coffee tour were great. We didn’t feel like pushed at all like one of the reviews we saw here. We were instead left enough time we needed and wanted in the towns and at the coffee tour and the lunch. The pace was up to us. Arturo said there aren’t as many tours now as compared to pre-pandemic since the pandemic hit the tourism really hard in Costa Rica and he had no business at all which he did nothing and made no money at all during that time. Now he hopes to get more people to sign up for tours so we are writing this good review hoping to help him financially. He’s a very good guide and speaks very good English. Highly recommend this tour with Arturo!

Nice! - If you are looking for a “budget friendly tour” and have a short time to spend in Costa Rica, then you should take this tour. Don Ricardo was very kind, patient, and fun, besides he is a great driver. I enjoy shopping souvenirs in Sarchi, as well as spending time in the butterfly garden at Doka coffee farm. The grounds in the coffee farm are lovely!

Excellent tour - The tour was informative and enjoyable. Our guide, Eduardo Castro was very knowledgeable and professional. The Doka Coffee Tour was excellent, we got a complete tour of the coffee process, from the time the bean is placed in the ground to the time is package. Recommend this tour if you are interested in coffee. The tour in Sarchi was interesting, we went to where the carts are painted, from the carts that are sold in the stores to the carts that are seen throughout Costa Rica. Also, good deals in their store. We stopped in Grecia and saw a church completely built in metal, something I have never seen in any of my previous trips to many countries. Highly recommend this tour.

Coffee Coffee Coffee and more - Had no idea as to how complex it is to pick coffee and convert from the "cherry" to the finished coffee we see in the stores. Andrea, the guide at Doka Coffee, was tremendous! Very much "jn the know" and very people oriented. Our Driver, Eduardo, navigated the traffic and back roads perfectly. A great way to spend 1/2 a day in the San Jose area

Fabulous day, thank you to our guide Miza, a true professional and knowledgeable man. - This was a lovely day, the tour was very well planned. Sarchi seems a little touristy but the history in the ox cart making is good. The coffee tour at Dora was great, gorgeous countryside. We are lucky to be here during harvesting. Our guide, Miza, was knowledgeable and professional. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. One word of advice, if you have not received a confirmation of when you will be picked up at your hotel, ask your hotel to call them. Make certain you have printed your voucher. Our desk clerk had to make several calls to confirm we were really on the schedule.

Lower your expectation. Rip off. - I cannot believe how much was charged for what we got. First, I will say our tour guide Ronny was absolutely fine. We get the feeling he was not the usual guide.. one piece he may play a part on was the Coffee tour as we feel he may have had control of that. To start… we would recommend that you read the description and take it for exactly as it is. You will mostly be in a car and will not have a chance to see any of these towns mentioned but for a tiny bit. On our day, Grecia was having a cultural festival so we could not visit nor could we see the church very well. Pictures were blocked by tons of people. Sarchi, we went to the ox art museum, which was interesting and the tour guide was knowledgeable. But it really was mostly a solicitation to buy souvenirs and give tips to artists sitting out painting. Doka was the biggest disappointment. If you read the Doka tour website, you get to see a lot more than what we were given. Lunch was good. Our guide Ronny was also our Doka guide. Almost like they said. Sure, have lunch and you can walk them around. But not on one of our regular tours. Therefore cutting the cost for the supplier. We were not taken to the plantation but only to a run down processing area. We were not given any coffee to taste and again, we’re just pushed to buy coffee. Which we did because we love coffee. I complained to Viator and they said what was in the description was what was delivered. This tour was a scam. Save your money in Costa Rica and be sure to read it for face value. We cancelled future bookings and will not use this company ever again if we can help it.
