- Ajanta Caves - Begin the day with a morning pick-up from the hotel to explore the Ajanta Caves. These caves are renowned for their exquisite rock-cut architecture. The breathtaking frescoes and cave paintings are celebrated as some of the finest examples of ancient Indian art. The Ajanta Caves are carved into a horseshoe-shaped rock formation, approximately 76 meters high, overlooking the Waghur River. Constructed solely with hammer and chisel, these caves served as peaceful retreats for Buddhist monks for nearly nine centuries before being suddenly deserted. They were rediscovered in 1819 by an Army officer from the Madras Regiment of the British Army during a hunting expedition. The discovery quickly gained fame, establishing Ajanta as a prominent tourist attraction in India. (Note: Closed on Mondays)
- Ellora Caves - Later, proceed to visit the Ellora Caves. These caves were carved from the vertical face of the Charanandri hills between the 6th and 10th centuries AD, with work commencing around 550 AD, coinciding with the abandonment of the Ajanta Caves. The Kailash Temple (Cave 16) is the most extraordinary structure within the Ellora complex. Created by the Rashtrakuta dynasty as a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is designed to resemble Mount Kailash, the mythical abode of Shiva. This standalone, multi-level temple complex features a gateway, exhibition area, square hall, sanctum sanctorum, and tower, all showcasing the brilliance of Dravidian art. The Kailash Temple is a magnificent architectural masterpiece with impressive spatial effects and grand sculptures. (Note: Closed on Tuesdays)
