Must visit for the weather and views, funicular train (at least one way) - This is a must visit in Penang. We reached there in the afternoon, it was hot but lesser as compared to the sea side. I would suggest visiting either in the morning or evening. The views from the hilltop are good, you can see the bridges and waterfront. There are a lot of options for a quick bite on the hilltop, although, less for vegetarians/vegans. I did not take the trekking route. We took the funicular train. We took a round ticket - covers up and down journey, if I remember right it cost 30 RM. The cost is higher for the express ticket - the train is the same but for an additional price one gets to circumvent the queue. This may be useful on weekends. We took a normal ticket as it was a weekend and it took about 25 minutes to board the train. The journey is hardly 5 min it's amazing. I think the frequency is about one in every 12- 15 min. Surprisingly, passengers are allowed to stand on this route - it has a 28 degree incline. Tickets are sold for one way journeys on hill top as well. If you want to have the best of both worlds, you can take one way train and trek the other way back.

Better than expected and so many monkeys . - We arrived 0800 on a Tuesday . Bought normal tickets , small queue but we got straight on the train . At the top we enjoyed the views but as it was so early it was a little misty . We paid to walk the Habitat and it was amazing . We saw lots of monkeys on the bridge , giant squirrels ( although shy) a lizard , a different monkey and lots of butterflies . We got the free buggy back to the start . We had drinks at David’s cafe - food expensive but the setting was lovely . It was a fabulous morning .

Penang Hill. A true pleasant surprise and cool place to chill in the midst of nature - Gem of the Far East discovered by early colonists from British Empire. Thanks to their love of this wonderful hill top and the love of Penang folks and the efforts to use this place in a sustainable way for the enjoyment of all. Hopefully the cable car which is under construction will not bring unintended impacts. Any way, you must visit it yourself to enjoy the cool climate and the best time to enjoy it is to go on weekdays around 6pm and stay till 9pm or spend a night there

Well organised 🙌🏻 - Recommend purchasing ticket ahead as wait times are long! But they have a wonderful system in place to assure you see the most out of your ticket 👌🏻

Penang Hill is well worth a visit - Went on Monday at 12:00. No need to pay extra for the queue jumping tickets. Onto train within 15 minutes of arriving at station. The funicular itself is great fun and if you can, get into the first or last carriages. Once at the top the village is good and there are a number of different nature trails, temples and of the course the wonderful views overlooking the island and beyond.

Very well organized. - The best way to climb the hill. They have it very well organized. Even if you haven't bought the Fast Lane to first book batches, with a code reader and then you're assigned time. All very fast.

Leave the school groups as soon as you can with their screams.. - Tickets bought fast lane at the counter around 9.30am and there were very many school groups. We left it on arrival as quickly as we could, so we immediately spotted the monkeys. They're gone at the slightest noise. Only at the exit below do they stay longer, but not in the woods. Very pleasant... definitely bring mosquito repellent and an umbrella. Quite physically okay, because it's climbing and descending

Fast and punctual zip line for penang hill - We took the funicular on August 3, 2025. We decided for the express ticket that makes you jump the queue ... in fact there were a lot of people waiting ... we spent 200 rb but it was worth it. it takes us to climb 700 meters of altitude difference 4 minutes .. on you are in a beautiful panoramic point and there are a thousand things to do ..

Beautiful rainforest experience but poor organisation. - Really enjoyed the habitat walk at the top but the organisation of both the funicular and the shuttle bus were very poor. After waiting for the funicular we were herded into already jammed full carriages and found it difficult to balance standing up, being seniors. After the habitat walk there was just one shuttle car, which only seated six large adults, and a big queue so it took far too long to get back to the funicular.

Useless Service - DONT Book thru Viator - We were extremely annoyed - Viator took our money for 2 express funicular tix to Penang Hill , confirmed the booking but we were unable to Download the voucher or Contact Viator about this despite multiple attempts. We had to pay at the station for duplicate tix. Viator was useless. Wouldn’t book again thru them
