- Manek Chowk - Guests will be collected from their hotel in Ahmedabad by an English-speaking guide for a 7:30 AM tour.
The tour kicks off at a café where participants can savor some sweet masala chai tea while the guide shares insights about Ahmedabad. This city is one of Gujarat’s most affluent urban areas, boasting a rich history, captivating architecture, and vibrant bazaars.
Visitors can admire a painting by the renowned artist M.F. Husain, who frequented the café. A Tuk-Tuk (a three-wheeled auto rickshaw) will then transport guests to the Swaminarayan Temple, known for its intricate teak carvings dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan. The journey continues into Old Ahmedabad to explore its pols: clusters of houses with shared pathways and private entrances. Guests can wander through several pols, observing the beautifully carved houses and learning about their history.
The tour includes a visit to Manek Chowk square to see the chabutras, the city’s bird feeding towers.
- Sidi Saiyyed Mosque - The tour proceeds to the fifteenth-century Jama Masjid Mosque, showcasing a blend of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles.
Participants may choose to pause for a traditional Gujarati breakfast (at their own expense).
The tour resumes with another tuk-tuk ride to the Sidi Bashir Mosque, famous for its ‘Shaking Minarets’ (Jhulta Minar), which gently vibrate when touched. The itinerary also includes a visit to the fifteenth-century Panchkuva step well and a textile bazaar before concluding at the Sidi Sayed Mosque.
After the tour, guests will be transported back to their hotel in the city center.
