• Galle Fort Lighthouse - The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort, is a fortification initially constructed by the Portuguese on Sri Lanka’s southwestern coast. The original fortifications, built in the late 16th century, were relatively simple. However, the fort underwent significant enhancements in the 17th century by the Dutch, transforming it into one of the most significant archaeological, architectural, and historic monuments illustrating European influence in Southeast Asia from the 16th to the 19th centuries. According to UNESCO, the site was designated a World Heritage Site for its unique representation of an urban ensemble that demonstrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries, meeting criterion number four for such recognition.
