Highlights
  • Mount Lofty Summit - Your 30 minute trip into the Adelaide Hills takes the scenic Cleland Conservation Park route. First we take a short stop at Mount Lofty Summit where you’ll enjoy an amazing panoramic view over the whole of Adelaide. At approximately 710m, the summit is the highest point in the Adelaide Hills with uninterrupted views to the Gulf St. Vincent and as far as the eye can see north and south along the coastline.
  • Cleland Wildlife Park - Then continue your tour to Cleland Wildlife Park, an 86-acre (35-hectare) natural bush setting that provides an open-space environment with very few enclosures. Home to more than 130 species of Australian animals, the park is known for its management and care in the health and well being of the animals. Your entry to Cleland includes the ‘close-up’ koala experience where you can touch and photograph one the park’s koalas while under the supervision of the keepers who maintain the highest standards for their care.

As you explore the park and follow the self-discovery trails, walk among the free-roaming animals in their natural environment. See kangaroos, emus, dingoes, wallabies, Tasmanian devils and many more, and check out the wetlands where pelicans, cormorants and other water birds live. Engage with the animals as you hand-feed kangaroos, wallabies and potoroos with provided animal food, and don’t miss one of the interactive keeper talks, a great way to learn about and see the animals in action. The Ocean to Outback interpretive centre provides an opportunity to learn about South Australia’s diverse ecosystems while viewing nocturnal animals, small mammals and reptiles.

You’ll arrive at Cleland Wildlife Park just before 11am and leave the park around 3pm, which gives you plenty of time to discover and walk around the park.

Lovely day out at Cleland Wildlife Park - We had a lovely day at Cleland Wildlife Park via Mount Lofty summit. We had about 4 hours at the park which allowed a very relaxing, no pressure day with lots of time with the animals. We had lunch at the park as well which was reasonably priced and delicious.

Up Close and Cuddly - Brought overseas visitors to this park, they loved the experience to get up close with the different animals and then to have the opportunity to hold a koala and have their photo taken was an added bonus for them to take home and show others.

Really great park - Nice day at park. Tob was great guide. Time at park seemed about an hour too long. Very limited koala viewing opportunity but kangaroos were plentiful!

Great place for close encounter with wildlife - We had a friendly young guide who gave us some general background on Adelaide as we headed up into the hills. The Mt lofty view stop had to be aborted as all roads up were closed while power lines were being repaired. The park is well organized with close to natural environments for the animals you are guaranteed some encounters either wallabies and kangaroos, other animals such as koalas are time dependent.

Disappointing non-tour - We never got to go on this excursion as our ship docked 3 hours late. As the captain didn't make the announcement until his daily update at noon, we didn't find out until within 24 hours of the trip, so we're only getting 1/2 of our money back. Not happy. We have a total of 9 excursions scheduled, this was our 3rd. We docked an hour late in Albany and Busy Blue bus tours made allowances and picked us up at the port. When I heard back from pureSA, they said they had administrative expenses and that is why they could only refund 1/2 of our money. They didn't have to pick us up at the port, so where are the administrative expenses?

Rip Off - Avoid! - Cleland is a great place to visit and thoroughly enjoyable however do not book with Viator or Pure SA (the tour company). It's easy to do it yourself and much cheaper! The cost of this trip with viator - ie the price we paid was £141.66.  If we had gone on our own via Uber, 2 people with a return journey would have been £79.95.   We could even have caught the local bus and it would have been even cheaper. The ticket we received said English Guide.  There was no guide.  The"driver" did not speak to anyone, he picked us up (there were 6 of us in total) and he drove us to Cleland.  He had the sat nav on all the way there and the radio on full volume.  No interaction at all. On arrival at Cleland he said he'd never been there before and he was taking the opportunity to do some photography.  He walked far too quickly from the car park to the entrance; there were 2 elderly ladies on the trip who we had to wait for and look out for as he left them behind. On arrival at Cleland entrance he paid for the 6 of us to go in with his credit card and left us and said see you later.  It was later as well as he was 30 minutes late picking us up.   Despite having a minibus full of bottles of water he did not share these around.  There was also no animal feed included in the trip despite many of the reviews on the website saying this was included. The "driver" did not know we were supposed to be going to Mt Lofty so had to do it at the end of the day by which time it was going too dark and cloudy to see anything.  Again he swiftly left the bus and headed for the entrance and we had to wait for the ladies ourselves.  There was no interaction with us again - didn't point out any places of interest or pass on any information etc.   We were totally ripped off and conned!
