Great experience. Well worth the time and money. - Our tour of Elmina and the castle was everything I hoped it would be. Although a journey from Accra, our tour guide Yaw was punctual and helpful the entire time. He took time to answer our questions and explain how things work here in Ghana. We ate well and had meaningful discussions along the way. I would 100% recommend this tour for anyone looking to see the Elmina castle and other things included in the tour. Don’t hesitate. Just pull the trigger!

No one is innately a slave; sadly and tragically, one can be ENSLAVED! - Booking the private Cape Coast/Elmina (En)slaved Dungeon and Canopy Walk tour with Citizen Tours was seamless, with regards to communications initiated in the U.S., and flawlessly escorted, as a tour experience in “The Motherland!!!” The day began promptly at 5am, my driver Moses picking me up at the location I was staying at, which was a great assist to me as opposed to the other tours I had inquired into requiring me to meet them at a predetermined location. Moses and I begun our travel to the Cape Coast, he very adeptly navigating the traffic, was indeed no small task. He and I spoke about what it will mean to me as an American African to experience Elmina (En)slaved Dungeon for the first, and very likely last time, and why it has been a lifelong necessity of mines… Along our route we picked up my tour guide, Citizen Tour owner, and fellow “Yaw,” and he and I bonded instantly! I learned how he as a facilitator for those of us, particularly of the diaspora, do require a certain level of support and understanding, when embarking on this type of experience into the past…?! Prior to Elmina we traveled to the Kakum Rainforest to do the Canopy Walk which was both exciting and picturesque! I joked with Yaw saying it was obvious why he chooses to start this tour here; coupled with the impending heaviness of Elmina (En)slaved Dungeon, the Canopy Walk provides an equal amount of challenge, accomplishment, and levity! I had fun doing this walk…!!! We three (Yaw, Moses, and I) had lunch at an extraordinary resort restaurant called the “Lemon Beach Resort:” here, it is picturesque, so utterly balmy, and the food was so very delicious!!! Not an aside but truly noteworthy, having eaten fish in Elmina, Accra, and Kumasi, Ghana is a pescatarian, foodie’s paradise! Elmina (En)slaved Dungeon — No imagination gets you even remotely close to the horrors and inhumanity felt in this space!!! NO HUMAN BEING IS INNATELY A SLAVE — Human beings, horrifically and tragically, when subjugated by the immoral and rotten, are ENSLAVED!!! What is a castle for one is a dungeon for another… there is so much more not to be said in this review about my “experience” at this dungeon but what has to be both acknowledged and in my case, deeply appreciated, is how Yaw stood shoulder to shoulder with me and served as my Sacred witness as I had my “Sankofa” moment… that I should learn from the past to build a strong future by any means necessary… Be guided safely, knowledgeably, and compassionately with Citizen Tours; Medase, Yaw and Moses!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Incredible Experience with Citizen Tour - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Incredible Experience with Citizen Tour** I had the absolute pleasure of touring with **Citizen Tour** in Accra, Ghana, and I cannot recommend them enough. Our guide **Joshua (also known as Yaw)** was phenomenal — knowledgeable, warm, and passionate about sharing the history and beauty of Ghana. Our driver, **Moses**, was equally amazing, ensuring we traveled safely and comfortably the entire day. We journeyed from Accra to **Cape Coast**, starting with **Kakum National Park** for the thrilling **canopy rope bridge walk**. Initially, I was unsettled by the swinging of the bridge, but both Joshua and my uncle were incredibly supportive and patient, helping me make it through **all seven bridges** with confidence. The views from above the rainforest were breathtaking — a memory I’ll never forget. Afterward, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at **Lemon Beach Resort**, the perfect spot to relax and recharge. The most powerful part of the tour was visiting **Elmina Castle**. Walking through its corridors and hearing the stories about how the castle played a role in the **transatlantic slave trade** was heavy and emotional. As a Black woman in the diaspora, standing in a place where my ancestors were held captive against their will — and endured unimaginable atrocities — was deeply moving and humbling. This experience was **rich in history, culture, and emotion**, and Citizen Tour made it all seamless and impactful. If you are visiting Ghana and want a tour company that treats you like family while providing an unforgettable, respectful, and well-organized experience, **look no further than Citizen Tour**.

Awesome tour equally awesome tour company - I can’t imagine doing this tour with a more awesome team. From the welcome message from Joseph all the way to a safe drop off and warm farewell. We visited Elmira castle which was eye opening, emotional and educational Kukum canopy walkway was an experience. Great views a bit of a hike so be sure to be comfortable. Moses was our driver and host. He was simply amazing. He made sure we were comfortable, answered all our questions giving great insight into Ghana as this was our first trip. Helped us navigate every aspect of the tour, introduced us to the cocoa fruit. He a wealth of knowledge and fun. I had the greatest birthday surprise following an authentic Ghanaian meal which we loved. I would choose this team again and again. Medasi Joseph and Moses.

Once In A Lifetime Experiences - Visiting Cape Coast/Elmina Slave Dungeon is a must see, more than a tour, an experience, when you visit Accra, Ghana. Citizen Tours, Kwame & Yaw were our private and exceptional guides. Even the drive to Elmina, was filled with historical facts and information about local sights. The Canopy Walkway Tour was beautiful and breathtaking, also a once in a life time experience. Yaw and Kwame of Citizen Tours, throughout the day were our hosts and we always felt safe and attended to. We highly recommend them for your trip too!
