Additional Information

The Abu Simbel Temples are two massive rock temples located in Nubia, southern Egypt, near the border with Sudan. They were built during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BC, and they were dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah, as well as to Ramesses himself. The temples were carved out of the mountainside and featured impressive statues, hieroglyphic inscriptions, and intricate reliefs. The temples were relocated in the 1960s to avoid flooding due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Today, the Abu Simbel Temples are a popular tourist destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
