Highlights
  • Alwathba Fossil Dunes - It is believed that the current fossil dunes in Abu Dhabi started their process of making millions of years ago when we were completely underwater. The sand and the sediments settled down at the bottom of the water. These were automatically mixed with calcium carbonate. The pressure and heat caused them to become solid. After the exit of the water, the dunes got stricken with vital airwaves, which gave them beautiful architectural designs.

*Please note during the holy month of Ramazan (March to April) the Alwathba Fossil Dunes visiting hours are restricted to evening hours only and will be closed during the first half of the day. We request our guests to understand this before booking this tour with us.

  • Al Wathba Salt Lake - Al Wathba Lake Abu Dhabi is a man-made Salt Lake in UAE. Located near the Al Bihouth region, Wathba Salt Lake Abu Dhabi has pipelines that establish water flow in this lake’s emerald color salt base. 13 individual campaigns enhance the beauty of the place that chooses to stay over at night.
  • Camel Track - This is an exciting and spectacular sport, with a trip to the races being one of the most memorable and often surprising highlights of a visit to Abu Dhabi. Bring family or friends and cheer on characterful camels as they gallop around a specially made track. You will be pleasantly surprised at the impressive speeds that these seemingly ungainly creatures can reach. Races normally take place on weekend mornings, with additional races on public holidays.

Head to the Al Wathba Camel Race Track (about 45km east of Abu Dhabi on Al Ain Road), or to the Al Maqam Track near Al Ain, Abu Dhabi’s garden city about an hour and a half away from the capital, to get a taste of this traditional and fun-filled sport. Try to get to the racetracks as early as possible to soak up the atmosphere in full. Entrance to the races is free.

  • Al Wathba Wetland Reserve - The reserve is known for its large population of Greater Flamingos - home to an average number of 4,000 flamingos during autumn and spring. It also hosts more than 250 species of birds, 37 plant species and a wide range of aquatic life. The Al Wathba Wetland Reserve features two self-guided walking trails (1.5 kilometres or 3 kilometres) for visitors to explore and a bird-watching hide to observe the flamingos. It’s the perfect spot for families and children to reconnect with nature and catch rare sightings of flamingos and preserved wildlife. Available on-site is an air-conditioned visitor’s centre and shaded areas along the walking trails.

The wetland reserve is kept as raw as possible and there are no cafes available – make sure you stay hydrated! Don’t forget to pack your hat and sunscreens.

Desert wonders - This was a wonderful way to see the natural landscape outside of Abu Dhabi. As a solo traveler I felt completely secure with my guide Shakeer who was welcoming and informative. He even offered to swap out seeing the Grand Mosque portion of the trip with the wetlands where flamingos were visiting for the winter months. Truly a magical trip to be remembered.

The excitement and surprise of Al-Wathba Fossil Dunes, Long Salt Lake, and Camel Racing - This was an amazing trip!! We expected a dynamite outing but what we experienced was even better. The Long Salt Lake was awesome and very picturesque. With only a few tourists there, we had plenty for time for photos and experiencing the place. The Fossil Dunes - awesome. We arrived at dusk and were able to see the dunes bathed in light. And before any of that happened, we were treated to an introduction to camel racing. We were able to interact with many of the riders and caretakers. Our guide took us along for 8km route and showed us a typical training day for the teams. It was awesome. Our only recommendation would be to have the tour guide speak more and introduce each location with some history and local background. Even without this, our guide was awesome, even assisting us in taking photos. This was a great outing and we highly recommend it!
