Private tour of Panda Research Base with Bella - Must do while in Chengdu! The panda reserve is modern and beautiful and we saw many adorable pandas. Bella our guide was fantastic! She is very knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, and was patient and helpful with my school age kids and their elderly grandparents. Highly recommended!

Must See Giant Pandas - Visited on a hot day on May holiday in China so very crowded but manageable. Tour option was rather expensive, but met a young man (student) just outside who offered "personal guided tour" at a very reasonable rate. As turned out he knew exactly where to go and had a good understanding of the work of the research centre so a very good experience. Warned at outset that the hot weather may mean hard to see the pandas. But we managed to see a number of pandas, inside their buildings and outside. Red pandas and Giant Pandas and some baby pandas. Walked for around 2 - 3 hours but did not feel that long. Plenty of water stops that did not seem marked up too badly. Toilets limited, queuing not a strength, so be prepared. Ladies toilet all squatting based. Interesting line of shops on approach - negotiate prices at these, do not take as marked. They will come down quite a lot to secure a sale. Well worth a visit, but need to be willing to walk up and down hill.

Panda Base, A Highlight of Our Trip! - Our visit to the Panda Base was an absolute highlight! We arrived early and hired an English-speaking guide for just 200 RMB, she was incredibly knowledgeable and took us on the most efficient and enjoyable route through the park. It was busy, but still very manageable, and the pandas were super active in the morning, which the kids absolutely loved. After the guided tour, there's an excellent shuttle bus service that takes you to other areas of the park. Facilities on-site are great too, including a McDonald’s, which was a fun bonus for the kids! Highly recommended for families or anyone who loves pandas!

Right. - Huge park where you will walk a lot, red pandas are much more active than giants, you have to keep this in mind because the last ones are almost only seen sleeping, yet it is a wonder to be able to see these animals live... Recommended experience, the purchase process is easy, just pass with the passport and you are done 👍🏼

Winter visit - no crowds, go in the afternoon - The area is much larger than I expected. If you intend to walk it, as I prefer and did, it is a long way. You also need to use your navigational skills as the Panda Villas and attractions on the south side are not well indicated as the park's intention is for you to purchase the shuttle carts. It is not a question of the price - it is mínimal- it just makes it hard to find your own way round. I did it but almost ran out of time. Travelling in December it seems like feeding time is about 15h - when the weather has warmed up. Saw loads of Pandas feeding and playing. Also, as is low season no crowds. Fantastic visit.

Great Tour - Emily is a great tour guide with perfect English language skills, so it was very easy to talk with her. She has great knowledge about the Research Base and the pandas there. I really enjoyed my time with her and can only recommend this trip.

Underwhelmed by an overhyped site - There were already queues snaking across the main entrance when we arrive around 0845 hours. Fortunately, the admissions were smooth and quick. The site occupies a sprawling area and one must be prepared to walk. There are buggies to ferry folks though. Each panda seems to be allocated an individual enclosure. We were able to watch the animals partly based on luck and the crowd that is silently screaming in delight. Hua Hua is the Taylor Swift of this place. Each person is only allowed to see her for a maximum of 3 minutes. Folks were literally dashing to the enclosure like some crazed fan. I decided to skip cos the queues were just overwhelming. After a couple of sightings of the red pandas and Po, I think I had enough.

Giant panda tour - Only saw about 7 giant pandas, and some of these were hidden amongst bamboo plants. On the up side, I still got to see the giant pandas while they are still endangered
