Astonishing collection of art with massive exhibits in a beautiful historic building. Love art and spend a day here. - Magnificent building and incredible endless art exhibits in beautiful cool surroundings. Totally overwhelmed by the art on show and the lengthy exhibits. If you want value for money and love all sorts of art then this is the place to visit. Incredibly dramatic setting and beautifully presented. You can spend a whole day here if you want to spend time savouring the art and reading up on it. Loved the Panoramic seating area and cafe below.

Regional art from medieval to modern - This museum boasts a rich collection of regional art from medieval to modern. For five hours on a Sunday afternoon it enthralled us. There is a modest cafeteria, next to which is an elevator to the roof offering a breathtaking view of Barcelona with La Família Sagrada in the distance. Definitely a Barcelona must-see.

Enormous, overwhelming, and fantastic! - It’s enormous, and the building itself is a work of art. We didn’t even manage to get through half of it, but we especially enjoyed the Medieval Romanesque wing, which has a world-class collection of church art from the 1100-1300s. Most of the paintings are actually frescoes that were removed from deteriorating churches, and then reattached to new structures inside the museum, built to the exact size and shape of those churches. The process of doing this is fascinating, and the results were breathtaking. We also breezed through one of the modern art wings before getting overwhelmed and stopping for a snack in the café.

Impressive building and well curated artwork - Don't miss the Romanesque wing. They have a process (see the video) to remove decaying art from 1000 year old church walls. In MNAC, they replicated the walls, then reapplied the art. Although they don't have 'famous' pieces, the art is well curated and arranged. The building itself is impressive.

Great Collection of Seldom Seen Art - This museum is fun to visit because the building was built for the 1929 exhibition. As such the building has many public spaces such as a large meeting hall and rooftop access for great views of the city. But the Building also houses an outstanding art collection with the bulk focused on Catalonian artists. You will not find well known artists here with their great masterpieces. Instead you find a sublime collection of modernist art (1800’s early 1900’s) that is thematically arranged (landscapes, exotic, portraits, ect). Because late 1800’s art usually focuses on Realism and Impressionism modernist art does not get much gallery space, but in this museum nearly 50 rooms house painting from this period and I found it just wonderful. Each room had an overview in English and Catalonian and the works (which included furniture and utilitarian objects but mostly paintings) were well represented.

Beautiful building - The art was fantastic and well organized. I think the building itself often outshined it. The oval is an amazing space. We enjoyed our visit a lot. I found the lay out slightly confusing and wish there were more "you are here" style maps. There are escalators leading up to the building but at least when we visited there were no working down escalators so there were a lot of steps to get us back to the metro.

Unfriendly to disabled - Rude employees who are unfriendly to disabled. When we asked the young man at the information desk (May 20, approximately 1630) where the elevators were, he said there were none. So I clarified and asked “so if someone were in a wheelchair, they would not be able to visit?” He said he didn’t see anyone in a wheelchair and asked if there was a person in a wheelchair here now? As though being wheelchair bound is the only disability - and as though he is qualified to judge who is disabled and who is not. Do not recommend.
