Highlights

Drive to Londorossi Park Gate

Mount Kilimanjaro - Drive to Londorossi Park Gate (2,385m). Register at the gate office, and start the hike with a gradual ascent and a slight descent into the Lemosho Glades. Enter the lush rainforest and listen to the sounds of many exotic birds. Spot monkeys such as the black and white colobus - these monkeys are black with a long \’cape\’ of white hair and a flowing white tail. Spend the day in the gorgeous and fascinating forested slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro, most of which is considered to be a rainforest zone. End the day at the Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Campsite, within the upper reaches of the montane forest zone.

Climbing from Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1

Mount Kilimanjaro - Wake up early in the morning and tackle a steep climb to head out of the montane forest zone and into the moorland zone. Admire trees such as the Giant Heather and Erica. Embark on a challenging hiking day with a trek over the Shira ridge at 3,500m (11,483 ft), where, on a clear day, have direct views of Kibo, the peak and ultimate goal of the adventure. From there, descend to the Shira plateau and set up at Shira 1 Camp, located next to a stream

Fantastic personalised safari trip - Gileard was a great help in planning this trip from the UK to Tanzania and ensuring that everywhere we wanted to go was included. He was an excellent communicator and replied quickly to every question. Everything went smoothly for the whole trip as it was so well organised. For most of the trip we had the same driver/guide, called Elle. He was a great driver, which is almost the most important aspect of a tour like this on African roads. He was also knowledgable, patient and a great person to spend the time with. He was flexible with any changes that we wanted to make as we went along. We visited many national parks on our ten day safari. Of note were ; Tarangire National Park - Lots of elephants in this park. You have to be aware of tsetse flies. Ngorongoro Crater- This was outstanding. So many animals to see in a contained area. The crater itself is worth seeing. We stayed at the Rhino Lodge, which is highly reccomended. It gets cold in that area at night, and they even came around to light the fires in the lodges, which was extremely cosy. Serengeti National Park- You have to bear in mind that the Serengeti is vast, the size of a small country itself. As it is a plain, you have to be prepared to travel quite a few kilometers to see the animals. It is definitely worth doing though. We saw so many lions, completely close up too. We stayed at the Mawe tented camp. It was very comfortable and the staff were outstanding. Arusha National Park- this was very different as it is a walking tour, whereas most other parks you cannot get out of your vehicle. We saw giraffe and buffalo very close up. Lots of flamingo too. Onsea Guest House - this is highly reccomended as a restaurant for dinner. The food was outstanding, especially their signature menu, which is a taster menu consisting of many courses. The owner is a Belgian chef called Axel. Really friendly and we had a great evening, sitting outside with the magnificent view from their terrace. We would highly reccomend KLM Safaris as they went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable trip of a lifetime.
