Additional Information

This creative climb joins two of the most scenic routes up Mount Kenya, Sirimon and Chogoria, producing a remarkably diverse and spectacular trek. Sirimon coming off the west of Mount Kenya passes through the dry side of the mountain with its giant trees and rocky terrain, and the descent onto the Chogoria path is exactly different with its lush bamboo and highland forests.

The final night time ascent of Point Lenana can be as difficult as any ascent in East Africa, but the rest of the trek is generally considered easier than either Kilimanjaro or the Rwenzoris, and this is the most likely climb for actually seeing big game.

Accommodation on this hike is in mountain huts. Nonetheless, if you prefer to camp you can do so on all nights on the mountain.

Volunteering in Lumo, community owned private conservation area and Mt Kenya - I went to Kenya in March 2018 for five weeks, alone, and Grace and Partick organized everything for me. Everything worked out wonderfully, I felt completely safe and welcome all the time. Lumo, 50 000 hectare conservation area is perfect for someone who really wants to dive deep in African wildlife and do it with low budged. Safaris with game rangers are gorgeous, accommodation is moderate, people friendly and welcoming. If you are planning on volunteering you can also book volunteering straight from Lumo. However don't expect to do much in work in Lumo, just participating game drives is what you mainly do. In Mt Kenya I had my own guide and cook, it was amazing five days. I really recommend both experiences. Grace, Patrick and all their employees, I met Steven and Kevin, were wonderful and made my first trip to Kenya safe and memorable.
