Highlights

Colombo to KANDY

Colombo - Day 1 – Arrival and check-in at a hotel in Kandy.

You are scheduled to arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport today as per your itinerary, which includes a four-night stay and a five-day trip. A representative from Lanka Safe Tours will welcome you at the airport. From there, you will drive to Kandy.

Srī Mahā Bōdhi Temple - Your next stop is Bahirawakanda Temple. The giant Buddha statue here is a major attraction. Some also refer to it as “Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya.” The massive statue stands 25 meters tall and can be climbed to the top, offering another great vantage point to observe Kandy.

Royal Botanical Gardens - The Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya are located about 5.5 km west of Kandy in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. They attract 2 million visitors annually and are situated near the Mahaweli River. The gardens are renowned for their collection of orchids.

Kandy View Point - Climb the hill by Kandy Lake to reach the Kandy View Point for an unbeatable view of the city. This popular tourist spot attracts many peddlers, though they often sell sub-par items. The area is also known for high pickpocket activity, so keep an eye on your belongings. From the hill, you can enjoy great views over the lake and the city.

Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - The Kandy cultural show in Sri Lanka offers a vibrant and unique display of traditional dances. The show features dances like “Salupliya,” depicting several demons, and “Thelme,” a vibrant expression of low country rhythm, along with Fire and Harvest dances accompanied by Ceremonial Drums and a Drum Orchestra. As many as 12 different folk and traditional dances are performed by the Kandy Lake Club dance troupe within an hour.

KANDY - NUWARA ELIYA

Ambewela Farms - Ambewela is a small town or hill station in the Nuwara Eliya District of Sri Lanka, sometimes called “Little New Zealand.” It is located approximately 17 km southeast of the district capital, Nuwara Eliya, and serves as a center for the New Galway tea planting district.

Seetha Amman Kovil - The Seetha Amman Temple is located about 1 kilometer from Hakgala Botanical Garden and 5 kilometers from Nuwara Eliya, in the village of Seetha Eliya.

Hakgala Botanical Garden - Hakgala Botanical Garden is one of the five botanical gardens in Sri Lanka, with the others being Peradeniya Botanical Garden, Henarathgoda Botanical Garden, Mirijjawila Botanical Garden, and Seetawaka Botanical Garden. It is the second-largest garden in Sri Lanka.

Day 3 – Kandy to Bentota

Kandy - On the third day, you’ll travel to Bentota, a charming town in the Southern Province’s Galle District. After breakfast, our car will take you to the hotel. Our first visit will be to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of Sri Lanka’s most famous tourist destinations. This sacred site is significant to Buddhists worldwide and houses the left canine tooth of the Buddha. In 1988, UNESCO named it a world cultural treasure. After that, we’ll drive you to the Kandy Viewpoint, which offers a spectacular view of the city. Any Kandy day tour should include this stop. Then we will head straight to Bentota for the night.

Bentota City Tour

Bentota - On day four, you can explore the beautiful town of Bentota. Cycling is best experienced in a tranquil setting next to the historic Hindu temple known as the “Katukoliha Temple” and the vast rice fields. Along the way, you will see the stunning murals of the Mullegoda Temple and the azure Dedduwa Lake. This is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Bentota. You can also visit Bentota Beach, which features several serene and lovely beaches. Bentota Beach, in particular, welcomes guests with swaying coconut trees and beautiful surroundings, making it the ideal spot for nature lovers to enjoy relaxing water sports.

Bentota River - Water skiing: Learn to water ski in Bentota and enjoy the sensation of water beneath your feet and wind in your hair. This beach is perfect for safe sea skiing adventures. The magnificent expanses of water are ideal for adrenaline junkies due to the lack of significant boulders and uneven conditions. If you enjoy water sports, this is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate your skills in a relaxed and secure setting. Don’t worry if it’s your first time; the support staff will teach and supervise visitors to ensure a fun and safe experience.

Bentota - Snorkeling and Diving: Regardless of your experience level, Bentota offers a memorable diving trip. You can swim in the warm Indian Ocean alongside tropical fish and beautiful coral reefs or navigate through abundant underwater seaweed. Anyone who has the chance should try it out.

Banana Boat & Tube Rides: Banana tubes, as their name suggests, are tubes that resemble bananas and are attached to a speed boat. The ride promises an exhilarating experience with enormous waves crashing over your head. In Bentota, visitors can choose between single-ring rides and couch rides, both suitable for any age.

Madu Ganga Biodiversity Area - Windsurfing: Bentota is the place to go if you want to enjoy windsurfing on crystal-clear water. It has the ideal climate year-round. Visitors can rent equipment or bring their own. Bentota offers lessons and individual sessions for those who want to learn or try windsurfing.

There are many more water sports you can enjoy. In the evening, you can take a boat ride on the lovely Madu River near Balapitiya town. The nearby creek creates several islands, and the local ecosystem produces a magnificent wetland. At the end of the day, you will be transported back to the hotel.

Day 5 – Colombo City Tour & Departure

Colombo - On the fifth day, you’ll travel to Colombo to explore the Sri Lankan capital before your departure. After breakfast, we’ll first visit Gangaramaya Temple. One of Colombo’s most significant temples, Gangaramaya Temple combines traditional and modern architectural elements. Completed in the late 19th century, it is situated on Beira Lake, which is located in the center of Colombo. The lake, which once covered over 1.65 km2 (0.64 sq mi), has been reduced to just 0.65 km2 (0.25 sq mi) due to various factors. During the Portuguese, Dutch, and English colonial periods, the lake served multiple purposes and continues to use its Portuguese name. It is connected to several intricate canals that facilitate the transport of goods across the city and suburbs.

Colombo City Centre - Next, we’ll head towards Galle Face. Galle Face is a 500 m (1,600 ft) long urban park spanning 5 hectares (12 acres) in the heart of Colombo. Governor Sir Henry George Ward initially designed the promenade in 1859, although the original Galle Face Green covered a much larger area than what is seen today. We will then stop at the Independence Memorial Hall, also known as the Independence Commemoration Hall, a national monument in Sri Lanka built to commemorate the country’s independence from British rule on February 4, 1948, when a Ceylonese-elected legislature regained complete control. It is located at Independence Square, also known as Torrington Square, in Colombo’s Cinnamon Gardens. The Independence Memorial Museum is also housed there.

Colombo National Museum - The Old Colombo Dutch Hospital, also known as The Dutch Hospital, is said to be the oldest building in the Colombo Fort district, built during the Dutch colonial era in Sri Lanka. It is now a historic building used as a culinary and shopping center. Here you can buy souvenirs and have something to eat. Your journey with Lanka Safe Tours concludes here, and your guide will drop you off at the airport or in Colombo, depending on your preferences.

mamawatia a Matariki ki Sri Lanka - Kia Ora! We did the 5 day Lanka tour exploring ancient cities and unesco sites as well as Kandy and tea plantations. We absolutely loved it. Our tour guide Kavishan was especially hospitable to our needs, and to me as I travelled pregnant. He was careful in the long drives and made sure I was able to eat at fresh and delicious food places. We enjoyed his company and the many jokes. The service at the hotels were wonderful, beautiful and we just can’t fault the service. We are very grateful. Thank you Kavishan for taking good care of us! Yoza from your new whaanau from Aotearoa NZ. Nga mihi

A burst of Sri Lanka! - Completed a 5 Day tour with Kavishan and it was fantastic. We got a good scope of Sri Lanka despite our time being only 5 days. Kavishan was attentive and fast with suggestions to suit our comfort and needs. Loved all his recommendations for food and shopping, probably some of the most delicious curries ever. Great sense of humour and was always bringing the vibes! Thank you for making our stay in Sri Lanka memorable. Always turned up with a big smile and was knowledgeable with the history behind the stupas, kings, historical relics and sacred sites from Anuradhapura to Kandy. Thank you to SL Safe Tours for providing great accomodation and package but our stay would have not be memorable if it wasn’t for Kavz! I will be recommending to our friends and family back in New Zealand. From myself and Ayla, thank you for the memories! Yozaaa ✊🏾

A trip of a lifetime to Sri lanka - From the moment of arrival from the airport until departure, the trip was frankly beautiful The hotels were excellent, but next time I might choose five-star hotels instead of four-star hotels The food is a little difficult if one is not used to spicy food, but to be honest, the food is delicious The person who was with him is named: Supun He is very respectful, educated, and extremely helpful. He is never short and rude from the first day to the last. The people he invites to for tourism tours are tidy, respectable people who understand their job, to be frank. I do not advise people to come in the fourth month or after, because the heat and humidity start to increase, so it is possible that the third month and before that will have excellent weather. The country is a paradise, the nature is amazing and the people of the country are very respectful.

Great experience! - I went on this trip with a friend for her birthday and we had an amazing experience! Supun, our tour guide was personable, flexible and knowledgable. Sri Lanka is truly a beautiful country with a warm and welcoming culture. Supun enthusiastically showed us the beauty of his country. We stayed in Kandy, Ella, and Galle. I really enjoyed seeing the Nine Arches bridge and little Adam’s peak had beautiful views. The only thing I wish we is that could have stayed longer than 5 days! Sri Lanka has so much to offer. Will definitely have to come back and do another tour with them! Many thanks to Supun for making our amazing experience.

Sri Lanka worth a trip - especially with Kavishan - This is our first trip to Sri Lanka. We covered the Pinnawala elephant camp, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Yala National park, and finally Bentota. It is a beautiful tourist friendly country and extremely hospitable. On day 1, Dinesha took great care of us from the airport pickup all the way till Kandy. Day 2 onwards till disposal to Colombo airport, Kavishan has been with us. He is our guide and driver. Fantastic gentleman, well versed with places, extremely courteous, kept all his promises and time, and exceeded expectations despite weather playing its share. He is a big part of making our experience quite unique and memorable. Thank you.
