Your instructor is a distinguished connoisseur of Chinese classical culture. With your mentor’s meticulous instruction, you’ll get hands-on experience with authentic Chinese implements; Discover the essentials of the ‘Four Treasures’ and their application: the brush, ink, paper, and inkstone. Practice inscribing a Chinese character of your choice and your own name on a square sheet. Following a brief interlude for tea, you’ll delve into the age-old art of ink and brush painting. This form of painting is one of the most ancient uninterrupted art forms globally. It employs ‘Shui Mo’ (water and ink), a spontaneous style executed with a brush soaked in ink and water, applied to rice paper. You’ll be taught various brush techniques, receive a comprehensive primer on the traditional materials, tools, and subjects of painting. Choose to etch your name or craft a Chinese painting on a fan, which you can carry home as a distinctive keepsake.
