White Desert - White Desert National Park is a national park in Egypt, first established as a protected area in 2002. It is located in the Farafra depression, 45 km north of the town of Farafra. Part of the park is in the Farafra Oasis (New Valley Governorate).

The park is the site of large white chalk rock formations, created through erosion by wind and sand. It is also the site of cliffs (at the northern end of the Farafra Depression), sand dunes (part of the Great Sand Sea), as well as Wadi Hennis and oases at Ain El Maqfi and Ain El Wadi.

The highest point in the park is at El Qess Abu Said (353 m above sea level) and the lowest is at Wadi Hennis (32m).

Thrilling 4x4 Jeep Ride through the Desert - One of the highlights of the tour was definitely the 4x4 jeep ride through the desert. Our tour agent made sure to provide us with experienced and skilled drivers who took us on an exhilarating journey over the sand dunes. As a first-timer in a 4x4, I was blown away by the capabilities of the vehicle. The ride was incredibly thrilling and provided an unforgettable experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure in the desert.

Great first experience with the desert - The desert is breathtaking, alien and absolutely charming. This 2-day trip is enough if you wish to just taste the desert, but absolutely not enough if you want to get to know it better. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone from temperate climates - the vastness of sand and rock formations, the silence, the dark after sunset. It's magical. Our guide and driver, Hazem, was great. He was clearly a skilled 4x4 driver, but also knowledgable about the desert and had some things to say about all the landmarks he's shown us. We've been to the Black Desert area, the Crystal Mountain, we've seen the famous mushroom and chicken, and many other wonders. All in all, I have to wholeheartedly recommend this trip. I have words of warning, though: this is not an experience for you if you can't tolerate sleeping in the wild, the lack of toilets and civilisation in general. It's a great experience for getting acquainted with the place, it won't be enough for more hardcore, wild travellers. And never, absolutely never, forget about warm clothing, specifically something windproof. The desert is cold and windy at night, and it's treacherously easy to catch a cold. And I say this from experience ;)

Desert very cool! - A spectacular tour with an even more spectacular guide! The desert is very beautiful and (Christmas) night was very special! Complete with music, a warm fire and a cozy night's sleep outside. Too bad it's cloudy so we can see the stars! I recommend!

Wonderful way to experience a remarkable part of the world. - This was such an unforgettable experience and I am so so glad we booked this trip! It’s an early start and a long drive - but it’s worth it! The oasis hotel was beautiful. This was where we stopped for lunch on the first day and were split up into our smaller camp groups and put into our 4x4. We had a lovely driver that took our group of 5 girls (my sister and I included) off into the desert. He was so much fun whizzing through the dunes and giving us a bumpy ride! I got the impression he was having fun too ☺️ I was blown away with how many different landscapes there are and loved seeing the rocks and colours change. Honestly felt that we were landing on different planets!! The camp was so friendly and well planned by the organisers - I felt so looked after, and so privileged to be experiencing it! My tips for future travellers: Take thermal/merino wool socks. I would have had a miserable night with cold feet and they’re not the first thing you pack to a holiday to 20-30degree Egypt! We also brought cosy winter scarves, wooly hats and gloves as it gets cold at night. As two Scottish girls who grew up on the west coast, camping and sailing, we thought that we would handle the temperature quite well, but we were still a little cold at night. The fire did help but I was so thankful for some cosy comforts. If I was to do it again I would probably take some leggings to wear under the trousers I changed into in the evening. We had a hotel booking for the week in Cairo so we left our main luggage in our room and just travelled with a backpack each and our valuables. What I didn’t appreciate was that the Oasis hotel is happy to store your bigger luggage for you while you’re in the dessert so we could have taken everything with us and left our big case at the hotel. This might help someone who is planning accommodation. Take some toilet roll as you won’t find any waiting for you. Take wee baggies to put your used toilet roll in (the land is so dry that it won’t decompose) and it leaves the camp sites un-tarnished so it’s perfect for the next guests. There will be a bin set up at camp so you don’t need to carry it home. I would take some wipes if I was going again. One of the other girls kindly shared hers with us. The wind blows so much sand and dust and it was alarming seeing the colour of the wipes after wiping my face 😂 Also nice to freshen your hands before eating or going to sleep etc. We took a small battery bank for our phones.

Once in a lifetime experience!!! Strongly recommend :) - The 2 day 1 night white desert tour was truly the highlight of our trip to Egypt. The trip was worth every penny and I’d recommend it to my friends. The trip began with a pick-up from our designated hotel at 6:30 am, then a 5-hour drive to the base camp where we were offered a delicious lunch before setting off into the desert with our guides in a 4x4 vehicle. We had a wonderful guide whose name was Hazem. As much as we enjoyed the gorgeous spots Hazem showed us, it was he who made the experience for us. Within minutes of spending time with him, you’ll know he’s someone who knows the desert well, is passionate about what he does, and loves being out in the desert. He’s had 25 years of experience being a guide and when asked how he navigates in the desert (because everywhere looks so similar to us), he said he has a GPS inside his head. We appreciated his knowledge, calm demeanor (you know how some guides can be in your face – well he’s not), superb driving skills, occasional jokes, and OHMYGOD that char-grilled chicken he made for dinner. Hazam was an amazing guide, the view was splendid and the tour itinerary was well organized, it was everything we were told it would be and we will surely be doing a tour again when we are back in Egypt!! Thanks for the great hospitality!!
