Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela - Inspired by his vision of Jerusalem, King Lalibela endeavored to create a New Jerusalem as his capital following the seizure of the original Jerusalem by Muslims in 1187. Consequently, numerous landmarks bear scriptural names, with the town’s river even being named the River Jordan. This location served as the Ethiopian capital from the late 12th century through the 13th century.
