Highlights

MOMBASA – TSAVO EAST (120 KMS – Approx. 2½ hours)

Tsavo National Park East - Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

The Tsavo East National Park safari begins with a pick up at your beach hotel or at the Mombasa port.
We’ll head out early on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway passing local farms as we traverse the scenic plains. It’s only about a 2 ½ hour drive to the park so we should arrive mid-morning, ready to begin our first game drive.

The park is home to Africa’s “Big Game” – lion, leopard, Cape buffalo and herds of elephants. There’s also plenty of birdlife- 500 species! So be on the lookout for lovebird, black kite and ibis on your safari.

After lunch, we’ll head out to spot more of the abundant wildlife here – zebra, cheetah, warthog, and giraffe. Later in the day, as the temperature cools, we’ll be watching for big game emerging into the brisk evening air to forage for food.

TSAVO EAST – MOMBASA (170 KMS – Approx. 3 hours)

Tsavo National Park East - Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch.

We’re up early with the rising sun and the first stirring of the animals! This is the best way to view the awakening savannah and wildlife as it emerges into the new day. Be ready for the adventure of the “hunt”.

After this first game drive, we’ll be hunting for a hearty safari breakfast at our accommodation.

Later, we’ll check out from our lodge, but the animal spotting isn’t over. We’ll go for a final game drive as we depart the park. We may see the Aruba Dam and Mudanda Rock, two well-known watering holes, where thousands of animals come to drink.

On our journey back to the coast, we’ll stop for lunch at an open-air, rustic restaurant with dramatic vistas of the Tsavo East plains.

Additional Information

It’s untamed and harsh, harboring the variety of animals you’ve watched on screens. Tsavo East’s vast sandy expanses host lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and zebras. These are just some of the many animal and bird species you’ll encounter on this brief yet exciting 2-day safari.

The park is massive, spanning 11,747 square kilometers (4535 square miles). Despite this vastness, the vegetation is scanty, making it ideal for observing a wide variety of wildlife. Furthermore, the park’s tranquil watering holes along the Galana River attract a multitude of both large and small game.
