Additional Information

Join us as we explore the most sought-after and unparalleled sights of Iceland’s South Coast, including the globe’s most unique natural spectacle: a sapphire-hued ice cave, accessible through a trek on Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. During this two-day journey, we’ll be taking you to the attractions that place Iceland at the pinnacle of travel destinations: commanding waterfalls, ebony-hued sand beaches, the unique Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, and a pursuit of the grand Northern Lights.

  • Order or availability of attractions may change due to road or weather conditions.
  • The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed by the operator. The hotels are in prime locations to maximize chances of seeing them.
  • The limit is 24″ suitcase per person, and no multiple luggage allowed. If there is limited space in the car you might need to leave part of your luggage in our luggage storage, free of charge.
  • Please contact us regarding pick up. There are some hotels where buses are not allowed to drive. You can find information about designated pick up locations at busstop.is or ask the front desk of your hotel. Pick up from Keflavík airport or outside of the greater capital area is not available.
  • We recommend you bring hiking boots with slip-resistant soles if you are visiting in the winter. Hiking boots are available at the time of booking.
  • Ice caves are a dynamic natural phenomena only accessible during wintertime when temperatures drop. Each year new unique caves are formed in different areas of the glacier. We visit a naturally formed ice cave during this tour. The photos are from this winter season, but the cave and other formations we visit might have changed due to the nature of formations.

Packs a ton into 2 days - Excellent 2 day tour with Haldor. Troll adjusted the itinerary so we would have the best weather for the various activities, which meant glacier hike on day 1 and the waterfalls and beaches on day 2. Haldor shared lots of Icelandic information, folklore, songs, etc. He made the drive pass quickly. The glacier hike and ice caves were impressive and really gave us an understanding of global warming. The glacier lagoon and diamond beach were otherworldly - getting there early in the morning was a treat with bright sun and very few people. The overnight guesthouse was simple and comfortable. Highly recommend this tour.

Wonderful Tour - especially thanks to our great guide Kuba! - My partner and I just completed 2 separate 2-day tours with Troll. We highly recommend them for any kind of excursion - their communication is top notch and arrangements went smoothly. We were lucky to get Kuba as a guide! He led our 2-day expedition through the South Coast, and we had a blast. He provided useful background information, funny stories, and navigated the dangerous roads with ease. We especially appreciated his flexibility with our schedule, as we were able to make the most out of our trip despite some rough weather.

2-Day SouthCoast Tour Review - I am so happy we had Magy as our tour guide. She is a boss lady, so kind, so helpful and so FUN. We did the glacier hiking including the ice cave, 2 waterfalls, black beach, diamond beach, and glacier lagoon. The weather wasn’t very helpful during the hike but the hiking guides were super professional. Regarding Northern Lights, we were very unlucky because it was very cloudy, rainy, and windy. We couldn’t see anything. But that’s okay - the whole trip was soooo worth it. One thing that disappointed me in the beginning is that when we were waiting for the hotel pickup on Day 1, we waited for 1 hour (8 AM to 9 A) without any phone number to call (since the office opens at 9 AM). This could’ve been avoided if we were given the Magy’s phone number, or any tracking system to check where the bus is - instead of waiting 1 hour with no updates. BUT, I completely forgot about this after finishing the amazing tour. This comment is just for improvement purposes. THANK YOU TROLL EXPEDITIONS. THANK YOU MAGY !!!! 🩷

Amazing scenery with a catch - There are so many tour operators out of Reykjavik offering very similar options- consider carefully! I gave 3 stars for the magnificent scenery and the glacier hike, which was amazing! But our tour guide drove in a way that made me feel unsafe, driving very fast on icy roads in near whiteout conditions- fishtailed twice and a third time drove us off the road into a snow bank, which I felt could’ve been avoided, as he was driving what felt like 60 mph in those conditions, frequently slamming on the brakes. The stops for food and snacks are at gas stations so I didn’t feel like I got an opportunity to try much authentic Icelandic food. On the other hand, the tour guide for the glacier (I think her name was Tamara, from Argentina) was fantastic! 5 stars for her, for sure. Made us feel safe while still getting a good adventure and amazing photos. The ice cave is small but beautiful and as blue as the pictures you see online. The hotel for the night is in Hofn and is basic but cozy enough- very light northern lights when we were there. Overall, it’s a lot of time in a van but it is well worth making your way down the south coast to see the scenery! Just would hope for some better food options and safer driving!

Not a safe or trustworthy option when things go wrong - Sadly I had a really bad experience with Troll Expeditions and want to caution others that when things go wrong this company isn't a safe or trustworthy option. There were other issues with the tour, but I want to focus on the one that prompted me to share with others. We faced a weather emergency and learned the hard way Troll isn't prepared and won't take accountability and responsibility when you report valid complaints. We were put in a very avoidable situation of sitting in their mini-bus for over 5+ hours simply because their vehicle was faulty and their driver untrained for handling emergencies and snowy/icy roads. It was definitely upsetting seeing as how they market themselves as prepared. We even watched while multiple other tour buses and cars passed by without issue as we sat there stuck and without heat because their air filter was filled with snow (a fact we learned later when the emergency volunteers 'rescued' us and inspected the engine). When we reached out and requested a refund we were given the typical corporate form email avoiding responsibility. After looking at the negative reviews closer I see this is their pattern. I did have a good experience with Reykjavik Outventures and they have fully working vehicles and communicative, knowledgeable and prepared tour guides who know how to drive on winter roads. Iceland is too beautiful and expensive to be stuck with a tour company not interested in valuing your time and investment. P.S. Don't hesitate as a foreigner to speak up when a tour guide's decision-making seems off. Many of the tourism workers appear very burned-out and under-trained which makes it hard for them to provide the services customers are paying such high prices for. I could sense the pressure of the tourism industry on Icelanders, like most economies that heavily rely on tourism, and do feel for both workers and customers. Also ask the company about the state of their vehicles, tour guide's level of experience, language access, and their emergency planning procedures. If you're a cautious winter driver, skip the tour and do it yourself with an online itinerary. In general the tours are overpriced and there's no guarantee you'll get an experienced tour guide like the ones mentioned in positive reviews.
