Xiamen – Zhengzhou-Shaolin Temple-Luoyang (L)

Shaolin Temple - The driver will collect guests from their Xiamen city hotel lobby and transport them to the airport for a 2-hour flight to Zhengzhou.

Upon arrival, guests will meet a friendly local tour guide and be directly transferred to Shaolin Temple (approximately a 1.5-hour drive). During the journey, the tour guide will share the history of the Shaolin Temple, while guests enjoy the scenic countryside.

Shaolin Temple - Renowned for Chinese Kung Fu, the Shaolin Temple offers visitors the opportunity to witness authentic Kung Fu performed by Shaolin monks. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple was originally built in 495 A.D. by Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-557) to house the Indian master Batuo. Recognized as the birthplace of Chan Buddhism and the cradle of Kung Fu, the temple’s rich history and stories will be shared by the knowledgeable tour guide.

Pagoda Forest of Shaolin Temple - Guests will then explore the Pagoda Forest, a collection of tomb pagodas for the temple’s eminent monks and abbots. With over 240 tomb pagodas from the Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties (618-1911), it is the largest pagoda forest in China.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, guests will relax during the 1.5-hour drive to Luoyang, where they will be transferred to their accommodation.

Luoyang-Longmen Grottoes - White Horse Temple (B,L)

Longmen Grottoes - The tour guide will pick up guests at the scheduled time and head directly to Longmen Grottoes.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Longmen Grottoes feature over 2,300 caves and niches carved into steep limestone cliffs along a 1km stretch. It is the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art from the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907). With the guidance of a knowledgeable tour guide, guests will also visit the Fengxian Temple and the Wanfo Cave.

Guests will then enjoy a boat ride to take in the stunning panoramic views of the Longmen Grottoes.

White Horse Temple - Following this, guests will explore the White Horse Temple with their tour guide.

Established in 68 CE by Emperor Ming in the Eastern Han Dynasty’s capital, the White Horse Temple is the first Buddhist temple built in China. Guests will explore the halls and pavilions, learning about Buddhism’s history and culture from their guide.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, guests can choose to conclude their tour in Luoyang/Zhengzhou or return to Xiamen.
